I just finished playing this gem and was going to write a review. But after seeing Gatorlaw's and Mad's on this site there was no point on redoing excellence. Nice job guys. I will say that if you wish to try this game and you should you can get a drm free download for $10 at gog. Gog claims they are modified to play on XP. Don't know have not tried it. UAKM is better than any current game you can buy. All three are top shelf games, they fit neatly next to Gabriel and April. If you read my review on Tex Murphy, Pandora Directive there is a link for an xp installer. You will find one for each of the three top Tex games. You will still need to use dos box with the installer. Unless I used the thing wrong, it is called an XP installer. There is a bonus with that installer though. It allows you to install your disk and then burn them back to a dvd which not only provides a working backup but when using it you avoid the disk swapping. But follow the directions because it gets tricky and one goof up and it won't work. All I will say about the game is that it's one of the best ever made. Read Gator and Mad for verification. Here is a link to Milo's web site he has an obscene amount of saves for Pandora Overseer and UAKM if you are stuck. Saves

UAKM is my personal favourite of the three "later" Tex Murphy games - an all out fabulous gaming experience I still replay my original version but also bought the GOG version as soon as it became available. Can't have too much of a good thing

Mad, I have to agree with you that UAKM is my favorite of the sereis as a matter of fact after many years and many newer games UAKM still remains my favorite of any game in my massive collection of games and I too play it over and over again at least twice a year.

Have you read the reviews here at Gameboomers and elsewhere, sierramindy ?? They should give you some idea of why the game is considered to be so good

Hi Mad, So okay, I did my homework, went and read your review and the one by gatorlaw. Even went to oldtimer's Saves link. Well, I am certainly happy that I did because now I have made up my mind, once and for all, that this game is not for me. I know a lot of gamers like this game, but even the humor (from a walkthrough at the link) isn't my type of thing: "Cuffing Up Flemm" plus the rest of the puns just aren't funny to me. Tex just sounds like yet another hard-boiled gumshoe that started with Sam Spade, adding a post nuclear San Francisco (with mutants yet) doesn't help. I'm glad I asked the question and I thank you much for answering it!
To love is to be happy with!

So if I download this from GOG will I still need dosbox or is it included in the download ? I mean will I have to download dosbox seperately or will it be installed in the background along with the game. I don't want to mess around with dosbox right now. Thanks for any info I can get. I use XP SP2.

I love Tex. I wish they'd get more Tex Murphy games out. I really miss them. Am sitting here listening to the radio show. What fun!

I'm sure Under a Killing Moon (very intriguing title) is an interesting game that gamers like for its great story and graphics, but those are not the reasons why I play games. Therefore, many games that others rave about, have been total duds when I tried to play them. I have my own inner guide that kicks in on games and I have no idea just what grabs me. Right now though I'm a prisoner of TOMI 3: Lair of the Leviathon and having a great time!

Kill what? Where in the world did you get such a weird idea? There is no killing in a Monkey Island game that I am aware of. So, are the mutants in San Francisco in UAKM lovely things?

If you like old time detectives like Sam Spade, Phillip Marlowe etc. then you should enjoy the Tex Murphy series. It is rather tongue in cheek but very enjoyable and set in a futuristic atmosphere. It is a first person perspective and the controls are different but once you get used to them quite manageable.
I would like to point out though that the reason Tex is a little different in Overseer is because it is a prequel to Killing Moon therefore the character was younger and a little less cynical.
You laugh because I'm different I laugh because you're all the same
Of all the things I've lost, I miss my mind the most.

Oh gee, oldman, you just added another reason for me not to play UAKM: I don't like first person games. And I was beginning to think maybe I would try it just so I could say how much I hated it, or if I was wrong to admit that it was good. I do have a bit of Tex Murphy history. I tried to play Mean Streets back when it was first released and I was enjoying it, as I recall, until Tex went out into the street and kept getting killed even before I knew what was going on. I quit the game right there. Then back in June of this year I tried Mean Streets again (downloaded from GOG) and had even worse luck with it than before. The beginning wasn't nearly as good as I remembered it and flying the plane was harder and once again I got killed when entering the street so yes, I quit it too. And those 2 games were third-person games so they had that going for them.
Hi Albert, just saw your post and all I can say is that "kill, kill, KILL" remark struck me as being a bit much, an overkill one could say. So I reacted to it in my own way, nothing against you however.
