I have not played the originals so I can't say. If they did remaster them, I would definitelt give them a try. Ana

FMV looks too compressed and loss of color, definition, sharpness etc. Well maybe not in the win 95 version tex game but the others suffer from it imo. If you've ever compared the DVD and CD versions of ZORK: Grand Inquisitor, there is an obvious difference between the FMV sequences (but only the FMV sequences). The rest of the game is identical in every regard. But hey, if there's a market for it and it sells games - I say go for it (especially if there's no DRM involved). My personal taste leans towards the old nostalgic look and feel – but I’d play a re-mastered version. Maybe they could coax Chris into doing a few new in-game commentaries (his humor was a big part of the game).

Can't you buy the TeX Murphy games from www.gog.com ? I think I've seen somewhere (amybe here?) that Good Old Games have them for sale? CD Project should have made them playable on windows xp and vista.

I believe that I read recently in an interview that Chris Jones and Aaron Conner regained the rights to the Tex Murphy games. That is why we now see them offered at GOG.
Although having the Tex games re-mastered would be great I would much rather see the boys use their money, time and effort into developing a new Tex Murphy adventure. One that will once again utilize Chris Jones voice as Tex. Since they have already said that developing another Tex in FMV is out of the financial feasibility then I am envisioning a game in first person like the last 3 games but without the FMV and you, the gamer, once again plays Tex Murphy. What do you say Chris and Aaron? Can you have that ready by next year?

You are right Pirate_Hunter, all those things and probably more are available today and would make terrific FMV games but that is not where the expense is. Renting a sound stage studio the equipment, the green screen, the hiring of actors, costumes, make up are just a few things that drive up the cost way over what adventure games can bring in todays market. I just can't see games being made like the Tex Murphys anymore let alone have a Developer who has the resources and funds to attempt it. I wish I was wrong as I am a big lover of the FMV games.

I would really like to hear from our developer friends who drop by now and then and see what they think of this subject. It is interesting.
Hey Skeeter...How much would a "Medium Budget" be?

Well if i were to guess then i would say 1 to 10 mill. Considering AAA titles like GTA 4 can reach to 200mill or more.
I know some can make dead cheap games under 500k but it severely lacks in things like fluid animation or cutscenes or other.
On estimate lets say the tell tale game series, each episode i would wager that the costs come to roughly 200k per episode, spread it out tho for a series of 5-6 games that comes up to 1 mill at the end of the series. But each sale of the first episode goes to make the next game with a small profit margin.
Some games can invest alot i.e gta 4 and turn that 200 mill to 500,000 sales at an average of £24.99 so on the first day or was it week it sold 500k copies i believe so thats 12mill in the first day or week. But that cant be right exactly as i heard gta 4 launch day or week raked in the most ever money comparing mind you not just game records but movie records also. So i duno, but something like this i would wager.

Think we are talking apples and oranges using another genre as an example. In this interview at Adventure Gamers with Chris Jones and Aaron Conners they mention this about a new Tex Murphy game... AG: I guess that really was a money question, more literally than I intended. But your answer is very encouraging! And you’re confident a Tex game could work with limited resources?
Aaron: A new Tex game will not be like the old ones… it’s just not practical. It cost over $4,000,000 to produce Pandora back in 1996. To get that kind of dev budget, you’d have to convince investors that we could sell at least 100,000 units at full retail just to break even. Could happen… but investors won’t bet the farm on it.
But there are other options. For us, we love the detective-style gameplay, the characters, the stories, the humor, and Tex’s world. These are all things that we could bring to a new game without having to spend millions in development. They have also mentioned something that you touched base on Skeeter, about maybe a series of short Tex Murphy games I assume would be labeled as down loadable.

They follow each other -- the plot of the third is more understandable if you've played the second (it's a two-parter). The third had the best use of FMV, I thought. If that's what you're particularly interested in, you might want to start with Snake in the Grass, and if you like it, work your way back, so to speak.
