Having completed "King's Bounty The Legend" - which was great fun - I've now installed "Risen" and whilst the graphics are fine, I'm not getting any sound :eek12:

When the game launches, I hear one loud kind of screeching noise and then nothing else at all !!

It's installed in XP Home and my card is a Sound Blaster Live! 24-bit - which has never given me any problems.

[And I checked, of course, that all is fine with other games.]

Has anyone else experienced sound problems

I went to a Risen forum and found someone who had had a similar problem and who said ....

So I downloaded that driver and saved it to Desktop - but that's as far as I know what to do with it :lol12:

Yeah, Mad - you're the first person I've heard of with such a problem and I had a few buddies who also played the game around a similar time than myself ; - so glitches might be your best bet.

Isn't the file you've download, Mad, an .exe file? If it is, just click on the .exe file and then it will install itself to the proper place, I think?

If it's not an .exe-file, you should be able to install it anyway through the control panel.

Control panel -> Add new hardware -> Next -> "Yes, I have already connected the hardware" -> "Add a new hardware device" -> "Install the hardware from a list" -> "Show all devices" -> "Use disk"

From there, select the driver file. That's the way I usually do if I download drivers that are not executable.

I made a "restore point" and then double clicked on the new driver (it was an exe file) followed the instructions as they came on screen and everything went without a hitch

Then I tried Risen and it worked with sound and I also tried a couple of other games I have installed and they all still worked too.

So it looks like a success :bravo12:

Now I just have to see if I can survive in the game :lol12:

Mad I had a sound problem in another game and was able to get it working by just playing in compatibility mode. I'm glad you got it working. Enjoy! :wave12:

I should have driven across the UK to spend the holidays with my Grandson but the terrible ice (and snow) have made things so bad where I am that I can't even get the car out of the drive, let alone attempt any dangerous road conditions !!
Which is why I am here at home, playing "Risen" instead :eek12:

Anyway, from the bit I've played so far, it looks like a good game and now I have sound it is SO much better :lol12:

I only have access to one in-game map at the moment and it doesn't label anywhere so, whilst I am enjoying myself, I DO keep getting lost and into difficult situations :rolleyes12:

By googling, I found a pdf map here. But I don't know anything about the site, so be sure to scan.

And I found one showing the locations of the teleporter stones here.

Yes. I had already found that PDF map site myself but you have to sign up and become a member and when I tried to, I was told my email address was already in use with a different password.

Very weird, because as far as I know, I've never even visited the site before.

You should buy a map of the island as soon as possible so you can get your quests marked on it. There is one in Harbor City (Nelson) and maybe in the swamp.

Mad, I don't know if you are interested in using a cheat to get a nice in-game map, as there is a quest involved in getting a map, so cheating yourself an ingame map might spoil the quest for you. :shiver:

I myself never managed to solve the quest, so I cheated myself a map.

Mad it was an older game I played not a new one so it probably wouldn't apply to Risen. :rolleyes12:

I'm doing the Eastern Temple quest, playing as a follower of the Don, and have got as far as using all 3 busts to get thro the barred gates.

But now I'm stuck where I turn myself into a "nautilus" to go into the hole below the blue glowing crystals - because once thro the hole I can't find the correct route to follow to get to "the chamber below" as per the walkthough HERE
I've been wondering if I'm at the correct hole but I can't find any other anywhere in the vicinity :woozy12:

[And I don't know of any other walkthrough where I might find advice.]

Hope someone can please help me out.

Mad, I think I know where you are because I was stumped for a while here. When you go through the nautilus hole into the room with the sarcophagus, there is a place on your left where you can jump down into a depression. That is where you want to go. It is between the sarcophagus and the spike trap.

I still couldn't determine a "seeable" path so I hugged the wall to the left and let myself fall down any opening that offered itself and DID eventually manage to end up in the right place before the spell wore off.
