i have xp,and thought i loaded this game properly a while ago. i played but got stuck on a puzzle, and left the game. yesterday i tried to put in a saved game MaG sent me,and i cannot find any files for this game. also, when i inserted the disc to see if it was really still installed, i could load to where i was before, but when i closed the game , it asked me to re-install disc 3. i could not. any ideas ?

That one should be fully XP compatible (unlike the earlier Atlantis games).
I wouldn't think the saved game would have caused a problem. But it might have if one of you had the Nobilis version of the game while the other had the version from The Adventure Company.

Jenny, the big problem is that i can't find any saves, period. and yes,i have the adventure version. also, when i get prompted to re-install disc 3 ,it says it's "the wrong path" and to choose another, but it doesn't read that, either.?

What is the path to where the game is installed?
If you right-click the game shortcut and choose Properties, you should see the path listed somewhere in there (check the different tabs).

If you don't have a game shortcut on your desktop, you can right-click the one in your Start\Programs menu and choose Properties.

Did you explore the subfolders?
For example, if the path was
C:\Program Files\The Adventure Company\Secrets of Atlantis
did you look for "The Adventure Company" folder inside the "Program Files" folder (it could be listed alphabetically under either T for The or A for Adventure if they left off the The)? And if you found an "Adventure Company" folder, did you look for the "Secrets of Atlantis" folder under that?

Do you see it in your Add/Remove Programs in Windows Control Panel?
If not, do you see an uninstaller for the game in your Start\Programs menu?

Jenny, first part - there are no subfolders, the first folder is empty.

second part, there is an uninstaller. however,it won't uninstall.it says the process is already started.
also it is in control panel at the top of the list in a large box. when i try to click "remove" it also says the process is already started elsewhere.

so,i cannot -uninstall
re-install

seems like the whole process is only half in or half out

You don't see subfolders inside your C:\Program Files folder?
Make sure you don't have files and folders hidden.
Quote:
To see hidden files:

1. On the Tools menu in Windows Explorer, click Folder Options.

2. Click the View tab.

3. Under Hidden files and folders, click Show hidden files and folders.

Note: To access Windows Explorer, click Start, point to All Programs, and then click Windows Explorer.

Now check again. You should definitely have files and folders inside your C:\Program Files folder.
Also, if you have an antivirus running, it may be blocking the uninstall, or part of the uninstall, and may not be letting you know.

If the folder for Secrets of Atlantis is really empty (and not just using hidden files), then it sounds like the game has already partially uninstalled. If you can't re-install the game, try deleting the game folder and using Ccleaner (or another registry cleaner) to clear out what the game left behind in your registry.

Or if you have a restore point from before the game started acting up or before it was installed, it might be easiest to go back to that.

i'll try the restore point and let you know what happens....

*tried restore- it doesn't let me go back far enough (game has been there almost 2 years)
so now i'll try to delete the folder, and let you know how that goes...

And make sure you follow Jenny's suggestion to run CCleaner or another registry cleaner after you delete the folders. Remnants in the registry can also cause problems.

thanks,draclvr !

anyway,i got it to go late last night, by right clicking on uninstall - apparently, i'd installed it as administrator. when i tried to uninstall it as user,it errored and was asking for administration to grant the user the right to uninstall the game !
once i clicked on the "run as user" option,it uninstalled like magic - no sign of it anywhere. who'd have thunk ?

just thought i'd follow up,in case anyone else ever has this problem.
