hi all, new to forums so forgive me if i don't explain well.

i recently acquired Beyond Atlantis 2 from a friend since I love Myst-like games. they said i would absolutely love it!

basically my problem is the program will not start. i have patched it, disabled everything i can think of and what i have found online doesnt seem to help. when i set the compatibility to win 95 (or any of the others) all i get is a black screen and it just sits there until I open the task manager and low and behold the program has stopped responding almost the instant it started. is there an actual patch that can help or am i just screwed?

system specs are as follows:
amd athlon II X2 245 (dual-core CPU)
geforce 210
not sure of sound card except that it is a realtek HD audio device
basically using a machine the is quite beyond the programs needs and recommendations!

any ideas and\or patches that could help?

Are you using Vista or Windows 7 or XP?

sorry, i thought i had mentioned my OS in my original post. i am running windows xp pro 32-bit service pack 3 (not sure why but a lot of people in the past have asked me for whether i am using 32 or 64 bit on service pack 3). i have gotten the program to run on my old machine which i got out of the closet and gotten setup with intent to sell but rethinking it for nostalgia purposes. interestingly enough while this older machine is a single core CPU running a 64-bit xp pro service pack 2 can run this game beautifully without any problem whatsoever. i would love to be able to run this on my other machine which is quite a bit newer. any ideas why my newer machine running the 32-bit OS on a dual core cpu doesnt run it when the 64-bit OS on a single core cpu can?

It might be that the game has a problem with the speed of the new computer -- more than even the patch can correct. It might be a problem with the video card drivers of the newer card. It might be something else.

It's hard to predict what computer an older Windows game will work with. Neither of your computers is as old as the type of computer the game was originally designed for. And unlike a DOS game, there isn't any Windows emulator that can handle a game that requires a 3D video card. So I'd suggest holding onto that older computer for older games, just in case.

thanks. i was just curious as to what mightve caused the problem. i am holding onto this older machine for that exact reason. theres only 2 games i couldnt get to run on my new machine yet but im sure ill run into more. thanks for the help guys and gals!
