Hi
I have done a few microsoft updates in the past few days (SP3) and a few others. The problem is everytime I turn off the computer through the Start button, whenever I turn it back on I have to log in. I never had to do that before the updates. Is there a setting I can use to get it back to the way it was ?
Thank you.

Just from my own experience, although others have had great success with the SP3, I haven't. I've loaded SP3 three times now, twice on purpose and once by accident when it was included with another update. Every time, my computer started doing awful things (including not booting, screen problems, sudden shut-downs, etc.) and each time I did a 'system recovery' and everything went back to normal. I think my machine just doesn't want the SP3 update for some reason. Love system recovery option!

Good luck with yours. I'd do the 'recovery' and never load SP3 again.

Cathy,
Check the instructions ***HERE*** and see if they get your automatic login working again.

Quote:
1. Go to the "Start" button and choose "Run"

2. Hence, copy and paste the command CONTROL USERPASSWORDS2. When done, click "OK"

3. From the given list, select the user that you want to allow automatic login on

4. Disable the option "Users must enter a user name and password to use this computer" and click "OK"

5. When done, enter the password for the user account to allow this option

Hi Jenny
I tried your instuctions but it made things worse.
I had to resort to a system restore like sortablonde suggested. Thanks to both of you for your input.
