In Laki'ahn - Can't get the shafts to open in order to get to the arena.
I've tried the wind/windmill levers so many times I'm sure I've messed it all up! Is the cage inside the "building" suppose to be open? Because it is open right now.
Thanks from kdj

kdj,

Have you been inside the cage and activated the Cage Symbol on the Main Pedestal? If not, since you said the cage is open, enter the cage and go around to the front of the pedestal. Look at the symbol on the pedestal. Put your slate on the pedestal to activate this symbol on the Main Pedestal. Pick up the slate and exit the cage.

If you've already activated the Cage Symbol on the Main Pedestal, ignore the above.

Either way, return to the Windmill. Have the Bahro summon the wind, then go up to the controls. While the wind is blowing, pull the left lever once and then pull the right lever 3 times.

Return to the cage and make sure the back of the pedestal is to the right - that's where the cage's opening is now.

You can't enter the cage from the building, so return to the Main Pedestal. Click on the Cage Symbol on the Main Pedestal to link to the inside of the cage. Exit the cage into the water and go forward down the canal to the Arena. Climb the ramp into the Arena.

Hope this helps.

You're welcome, Rushes. I hope it helps kdj.

I just edited my post and changed "symbol on the cage" to "symbol on the pedestal" in the 1st paragraph.

Hi and thanks!

I did it over...
left lever once, right lever 3 times, once without and once with the left red button. Nothing changes.

Hi kdj,

When you say you "did it over," do you mean you reloaded a save and this is the 1st time you pulled the right lever in the Windmill so that you can enter the cage from the building?

If so, you have to return to the Windmill a 2nd time and rotate the cage so its only opening is now on the right.

If this was not your 1st trip to the Windmill, did you make sure the wind was blowing when you pulled the levers? If the wind is not blowing, pulling the levers won't do anything.

BTW, I just noticed that what I call the left lever some of the walkthroughs refer to as "big left lever."

Also, I don't know how many times you've pushed the left red button so, when you do get into the canal if you encounter a closed gate, you'll have to return to the Windmill and, with the wind blowing, pull the left lever once and push that button once.

Another BTW, the Main Pedestal is in the bubble on the beach where you arrived when you linked to Laki'ahn.

Good luck.

wave Jema

One more thing, after you pull the left lever, let it return to the top before you pull the right lever.

Thanks for your patience!
I do remember to get the wind going. I have not re-loaded a save.
What I recall doing is: (several times)
following the Gamesover/GB walkthrough. My last try, I raised the pedestal up, so had to link into the "cage" from the linking bubble.

Should the pedestal be elevated?
Should I put the pedestal back down?

I attempted to start over by following the walkthrough steps, (having read several walkthroughs by now, and also looked at a video)

From what I can figure out, you need to make two trips to the windmill to get the shafts to open up?
Depending on whose walkthrough you read, all 3 levers get pulled the first trip and two of them the next. I've probly tried this a dozen times, so the levers and buttons have all been monkeyed with too many times.
Is there any hope?
Thanks!

Hi kdj,

Yes, there is definitely hope. smile

You said you linked to the cage from the linking bubble so that means you have already activated the cage symbol on the Main Pedestal in the bubble and that's good. That's one thing out of the way.

Since you know the wind has to be blowing for the Windmill controls to have any effect, I won't repeat that when I say to pull a lever or push a button.

Whether or not you have to lower the cage (pedestal) depends on how high you raised it. If the cage is at eye level, that's where it should be. If it's above eye level, you will have to lower it once.

To keep this from becoming confusing, post the answer to that and we'll take it from there. Also, if you can tell where the cage's opening currently is and post that, it would be great.

Will check back later today for your reply.

Hi kdj,

Sorry I am late here...

I have commented a lot on this in the past. This one is a challenge. smile

Here are my summary comments:

If you understand the controls, you can solve this.

1. Start the wind (important)

- LEFT lever activates the controls. Hit it once each time after you start the wind.

- SECOND FROM LEFT lever raises the cage. If you raise it too high, hit it again to lower it once. You should only have to pull this once.

- RIGHT lever rotates the cage. If you rotate it too far, hit it again and check again till you have it right. (You should have to pull this one twice to rotate the cage properly)

- LEFT button opens the triangular doors to the Arena. You can see them open thru the wind and dust from the windmill controls (upper left of the screen).

- RIGHT button does nothing. Leave it alone.

Go back and forth from the windmill controls to the cage... if it isn't right (now that you know what does what) go back, start the wind, activate the controls and move something to get it right. The cage can only be rotated four directions. Try each one. You can see the triangular door open, so open it and leave that button alone.

Good luck!

Hope this helps!

Wow! ok. The shaft part is done. Thank you to all of you who helped me!
Out of the frying pan and into the fire.
I can not get off the raised platform quicky enough and have tried saved game twice so far.
Is there a trick to this? It seems to go down without even stopping a second!
Thanks.

Hi kdj,

Glad you got past the gate. smile

Where you are now it sounds like the counterweight hasn't been set correctly. If it is, when you link in to the pillar (platform), the pillar will slowly descend and automatically stop on the 2nd level.

Did you determine that the pillar without you and your slate weighs 9? Did you determine that you and your slate weigh 7?

This means that the counterweight must be set to 16 (9 + 7).

Go to the control stations with the gray buttons. Make sure all the "eyes" are closed by pressing the necessary gray buttons. This is so you start fresh.

Then, at the control stations, from left to right press buttons: 1 twice, 2 twice, and 3 once. That gives you (2 x 4) + (2 x 3) + (1 x 2) = 16. Press the golden button and the pillar will rise to the 3rd level.

Go down the ramp into the water and back to the cage. Click on the slate symbol on the Pedestal to link to the Main Pedestal in the linking bubble. Click on the symbol for the Arena Pedestal (circle over rectangle without bottom line) to link to it. (I'm assuming you have already activated that symbol on the Main Pedestal. Be sure you have your slate.)

When you appear on the pillar it will begin to slowly lower. When it stops, turn around and step onto the footbridge. Cross the footbridge and go R to a short tunnel cut into the amphitheater.

Hope this helps.

Hi Jema,
Where do you set the counter weight? I completely missed that step. I did find the control stations and pressed those buttons so the eyes were all closed. I pressed the red buttons at the balconies.
I did go through the tunnels to the pressure plate, slid the device up went to the rising platform and that's where I'm stuck or rather can't get off.
So, back to where to set the setting of the counter weight?

Or, she could be referring to the puzzle with where you call the bahro to stand on the plate long enough that you can jump off the elevator ride up at the top.

Let us know which one you are stuck at KDJ. smile

The former has been well described by Jema...

The latter one has been buggy for me at times. I hope you haven't the same problem.

Cheers,

Dadguy

Hi dadguy,

I'm pretty sure now, after reading yours and kdj's last posts, that I misunderstood where he/she is. When I read his/her statement, "It seems to go down without even stopping a second!", I assumed (which I shouldn't have) kdj was at the pillar counterweight puzzle.

Sorry, kdj, that I had you unnecessarily repeat some steps. BTW, when you set the gray buttons to 16, that was setting the counterweight for the pillar puzzle.

where you call the bahro to stand on the plate long enough that you can jump off the elevator ride up at the top.
Here's what I did:
Step on the pressure plate, make the drawing found in the 7th journal, drop slate, pull up (red) device at the wall, step onto the platform, ride up.
There is where the platform does not "stop for a second" and it's on it's way back down/can't get off.
So, did I overlook setting the counter weight and it should be done before the above steps and how do I get to it? I'm confused about setting the gray button to 16?
Thanks from kdj

Check the slate. Is there a shortcut for the symbol on the bottom area? If not, then the Bahro did not recognise it, and you may have to re-draw.

As I mentioned, this one was buggy in my game and sometimes I could never get to the top. I finally just drew the next pedestal from a walkthrough to skip that section.

Cheers,

Dadguy

Now I've really done it!
I decided to go to a saved game and was following a walkthrough (one of GB's other ones)
and I repeated the drawing of the Arena, did everything including getting the counter weight thing done! and went to the house, back into the water and guess what? The gates aren't open and the tower is up high. so now do I lower the tower (can't even imagine the recipe for that) so I can press red balcony buttons so the gates will open or?
Maybe I could just draw the symbol from the book and move on and if so, does it affect anything if I skip on to the next sign?
OMGosh! I don't have much hair left! Kidding.
Thanks again for your help. I'll check for help tomorrow.
