There's a patch here

That patch is only for the German version Terry.

There is one particular crash which the patch is supposed to fix. The crash occurs at the end of Chapter 1 and prevents you from being able to get to Chapter 2. If you're getting any other crash, the patch won't help.

The patch is mentioned in some English reviews, like ***Mr. Bill's*** and ***Burpee's User Review here at GB*** even though it's described as being for the German version at Filefront.

My ten year old recollection of this game from when it first came out is that it was very buggy and often crashed. But some players of the English version thought the German patch helped -- at least with that one particular crash at the end of Chapter 1.

I wouldn't bother with the patch unless I was having the crash at the end of Chapter 1. But it's the only patch that was ever made. Save often because you're almost sure to have crashes.

I played this game many years ago too and corana has just chosen it as his "free" game as part of a transaction with me via The Trading Post here at Gameboomers.
And I told him I thought it would need a patch.

When I played it - and I played it twice - I did apply a patch but I no longer have the patch. However, from what you say, it must have been the "German" one that I used, if that's all that was ever available.

I didn't experience constant crashes through the game though. In fact I don't actually remember experiencing any

[And I put a question out on Mr Bill's forum earlier today - asking whether anyone there had a patch for the English version of the game or whether the German patch would work for it - because a Google search brought up his site ]

Hi All,

I sent the patch to Madeleine, but I see someone else needs it so I'll send it out again. I have no idea whether it is the German Version or not all I know is that it worked for us. It is not a smart patch so it needs to be placed directly into the games folder before being unzipped. It simply replaces two files (Data.dat and Island.exe).

Terry send me an email and I'll return it with the patch and instructions.
