Don't feel bad Cathy, I've been having fits with the new copyright protections used these days (and the dreaded activation servers - which I will do no more of).

Its unfortunate they just don't come to their senses and stop including them. It hasn't stopped piracy, it's only frustrated legitimate owners.

I liked the old days, where you had to enter the third word on page 12, paragraph 1. (well sort of - I do recall misplacing a manual once or twice).

Its just something we have to live with smile

Cathy,

Try right clicking the drive, go under properties, then DLA, and enable or disable the DLA drive and see if that helps with the problem of asking for the disc when the disc is already in there. I've done that a few times with success. (If it's enabled, disable it, or vice-versa.)

What is "no cd crack"?

Jackie

You'll only find DLA if you run a service such as Sonic - it basically allows you to drag and drop files to your Optical reader (like moving files to another folder under Windows Explorer).

If you don't have it installed, you wont see it.

Wooooo Hoooooo.
I got it working as it should be. I can see the characters now. The no original cd error didn't come up either. I had to install a driver from 2008. Very weird but I'm very happy. Thank you everyone for your help. My Whispered World is still working with this driver also.

Actually it was in the 70 series. I tried a few of the 90 ones but with no luck. I found the paper where I had written the version of the original driver down when I first got the computer. I am so very happy now. It's beautiful seeing all the people that I didn't know were there.

What's the full number of that NVidia driver that solved the problem, and where did you get it from?

Inland,

Thanks for the link for no cd crack.

I didn't understand your explanation to Gamenut about DLA. All I know is the letters stand for drive letter access. I didn't know it was Sonic (or whatever) specific. It sounds like something all computers have.

Dell used to put Sonic on their computers. I don't know if they still do.

Hi Uncle Reg
The driver is for an Nvidea card. If you don't have that card then don't use the driver.
The full number is 6.14.0011.7516
You can get it HERE
Just fill in the type of card you have and what operating system you use. I used the one from February 5th 2008. I also clicked on recommended and scrolled down till I found it. Good luck. Let us know howw it goe's.

175.16 to be exact. Did you try and use an older driver to see if you could get Whispered World working right Inland ?

I got confused with that driver # and I'm still not sure what's going on. At first I thought I was looking for a 70 series, but when I saw 6.14.0011.7516, I knew that translated to 175.16, but I didn't see anything dated Feb 5 2008. The list I get from the NVIDIA site says May 13 2008. After I downloaded it, I peeked inside it with WinRar, and I see in several files that the driver date is 05/02/2008. Cathy, did you possibly misinterpret that to mean Feb 5 instead of May 2? I looked at several different older driver versions that I have and the dates are all in MM/DD/YYYY format.

It was still a bit buggy the last I played it - I'm hoping they eventually publish a patch.

That's the one Reg. 02/05/2008. This is how it is written in my dxdiag. It's the second from the bottom one, above the 169.21. I hope that clears it up a bit.

Thanks for posting this fix, Cathy. It's just solved the flickering character problem for me too.

The game played perfectly on my previous graphics card (Nvidia 6600) but not on the 7500 which I now have. Go figure. But all's good now.

Here's something about this driver issue that's kind of strange. Unlike Cathy, who had apparently fixed the problem by installing an older driver, I was already using a real old driver. Back in Feb. of this year I had to reinstall windows XP and when I got done I didn't go hunting the web for a video driver, I just used the one that came on the CD with the card. This driver was 91.47. When I read this thread about drivers fixing this BM2 problem, I got digging into drivers I had been using previously, and found a 93.71 driver that had been downloaded the same day I bought this card, and might have been the first driver I used instead of the one on the CD. In addition I found a 94.24 driver that I had installed subsequent to the 93.71 driver. I also found 2 others, 162.18 and 163.75 that I had downloaded but never installed. I vaguely remember having some concern about these newer drivers, although it may have only been a "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" situation; and I still felt some hesitancy about installing this 175 driver. So I decided that first I would try the 94.24 driver that I had previously used for so long without any problems, and believe it or not, it worked. The BM2 problem is fixed. Woo-hoo!!! Thanks Cathy. Even though I didn't use the driver you found, you're the one that caused me to go digging into these old drivers I had been using. Thanks again.

The 90 series was in general one of the most stable releases for the Geforce 6 & 7 series.

Newer drivers rarely provide enhancements for anything other than the latest hardware. So I always keep an archived set of them around.

I am so glad you found a driver that works for you. I emailed DTP AG and told them about the use of older drivers for this game. I hope they will at least tell people about installing older drivers for this problem instead of telling them to update to the newest driver. Have fun Reg. It's a fantastic game. I may even try a newer version of a driver and see what that gets me.
Tootles.

I remember hearing a lot about this back when they started getting up into the 100+ series. Lots of people were saying they were having better luck with the 90 series. I think that was part of the reason I never installed those 162 and 163 that I had downloaded, and why I was reluctant to install the 175.

I have also fond this to be true, even going back several cards prior to this current one. For older cards, constantly updating drivers is mostly an exercise in futility. Even NVIDIA says this on their web site. They even used the same "if it ain't broke" catch-phrase that I used in my previous post.

Glad to hear that everybody seems to be getting a handle on this driver situation.
