Am still trying to get old WIN98 up and running-Replaced the CMOS battery, it started to boot up normally, initialised, and then came up with blue screen with title:
ROM PCI/ISA BIOS (<<P5A>>)
CMOS Setup Utility
then a series of choices:
Standard Features Set Up-(I changed the date here.)
BIOS Features set up, ect. ect.Don't know what to do here-get Yes Or No choice when I press F1 for each line. On one of them I checked yes for "standard Defaults' or something like that.
Anyway, it only gets as far as the Windows98 screen, sounds like its booting up, but goes blank after that.
Don't know where to go from here think

There should be a reset BIOS defaults somewhere - when you get to the Hard drive section, select the BIOS auto-detect option.

Here's a picture of what it should look like -

IDE BIOS Setup

Usually you use "standard defaults" as a starting point and tweak from there if necessary. If your BIOS is not detecting the correct hard drive, it won't boot properly. Be sure to reboot after making changes in the BIOS. I remember something about having to do that before changes would take effect.

If what Inland suggests doesn't work, the BIOS may have another area where you can force it to redetect the hard drive.

Did you jumper the two pins near the battery after you replaced it? I do not mean to be insulting, but did you SAVE AND EXIT the BIOS after setting the "Default" or "Standard" settings? You must reboot and then go into the BIOS and install your previous settings before you will be back to where you want to be.

Make sure that you set the correct time and date. I have seen boot problems from the date being wrong. I seen 1 computer that the date get set to 20 years forward and you could not even install windows because of this.

Thanks for all your comments-
I will take all into consideration and let you know what happens.
Inland-my setup screen looks something like that. I'll check it out again.
