I have had some problems with some games recently and yesterday got the message to re-enable my hardware acceleration if it is not enabled. I have also had some messages regarding my display and I have thought that is because my Nvidia card is not so good being a 9600. I do have a GTX 260 and have just not had the time to get it changed yet. In re to the acceleration, can anyone please inform me of what to do , where to go??? Thank you so much for any help. headscratch

An Nvidia 9600 isn't a bad card. It's not as good as a GTX 260, but it should be good enough for any adventure games.

You don't say whether you have XP, Vista, or Win7.
This site shows where to go to enable or disable hardware (graphics) acceleration in XP.
http://support.plato.com/kb/concept.asp?id=4689

For Vista and Win7, it's probably easiest to do it through dxdiag
(Start button --> Type the word
dxdiag
into the Search --> Display tab --> adjust slidebar and save.)

If your acceleration looks OK, you may have a problem with your drivers or your video card may be developing problems. If you think the card itself is the problem, try reseating it first -- unless you just want to go ahead and upgrade it.

Thank you so much Jenny. I have Win 7 64bit. I have suspected that maybe it is the card itself as I am experiencing more related problems. I will try to do as you suggest and also get the new card installed. I am also having other things changed out and have been dragging my feet as to being without my gaming pc, lol!!!

EDIT:

DX Diag says all of my accelerations are enabled with no problems found. It does say this,
"Current Display Mode: 1680 x 1050 (32bit) (60 Hz)". is this right for a 64 bit system?

That's fine for any operating system using a 1680x1050 LCD monitor.

Which games are you having trouble with? If they're older ones, they may be having trouble with 64-bit Windows. Are you using the compatibility mode?

Actually, most of the games in question have been from BigFish. They have an amazing tech team and still cannot figure out why. Two other recent games I have tried were Still Life and Titanic, The Lost Mission. Also The Penumbra Collection will not work. On the upside, Thief III, which had all sorts of dire warnings in the Readme plays flawlessly and so does Machinarium. I will definitely be back for help if these things keep reoccurring after I get new card and also extra HD with XP and Vista installed on that. Thanks so much for your help. Oh, and my drivers are up to date. Have a great day. wave

Titanic: The Lost Mission is very old now and if it's anything like Titanic: Adventure out of Time, it probably has some 16-bit code in it. 64-bit Windows can't handle 16-bit code, so you wouldn't be able to get Lost Mission working unless you used an emulator with Virtual PC or VMware.

I don't think any of the other games you mention would work in Virtual PC.

If your Still Life is the old version, the problem is probably the StarForce copy "protection" which doesn't allow the game to be played in Vista or Windows 7.
