Hi everyone. I was just looking around on ebay for games and found alot of Zork games for sale. I've never played any of them, but Nemesis and Grand Inquisitor look kind of neat so I thought I'd post and ask you all what you think of these games? Also I'm wondering what they're like as far as gameplay, genre (horror, plain old adventure, sci-fi, etc) and whatever else you can tell me about them.

Thank you SO much for your help!
Tracy smile

Zork Nemesis and Zork Grand Inquisitor are first person point-and-click games that allow you to pan around. They use FMV characters. Zork Nemesis is sort of fantasy/horror with some dark humor. Zork Grand Inquisitor is humorous. Both games are highly recommended.

Inferno has instructions for running Zork Nemesis on XP ***here***. Zork Nemesis has one point where you have to grab something quickly, which can be a problem with modern computers.

I don't know if the games will run on 64-bit operating systems unless you use Virtual PC with Windows 95 or 98 installed inside it.

My three personal favourite Zork games are Grand Inquisitor, Nemesis and Return to Zork.

Not very "easy" but all excellent Adventures thumbsup

I loved, loved, loved Zork Nemesis. Some of the background music is downright haunting. If I could play it on my Win 7, I would do it in a heartbeat!

I loved the Zork games too. I still remember the guy sitting in his rocking chair saying, Want some rye? Course you do." lol You had to get him falling over drunk so you could go through the trap door. Don't remember which game that was, though.

Hi, Marian!

Loved RTZ and remember it was the first game I played that had a built-in map.

Of all the Zorks, Zork Grand Inquisitor was my favorite because of the humor, and I believe that's when I finally got to see the little white house which, up to that point, was only in my imagination.

Zork Grand Inquisitor was my favorite of the three as well, but only if I were forced to chose a favorite, as I did like all three games very much. smile

I have no problems running Grand Inquisitor on my Windows XP computer. Zork Nemesis and Return to Zork run nicely in DOSBox. If I recall correctly, though, Zork Nemesis is optimized to run in Windows and the DOS version doesn't support some of the graphical features that you get by running the game in Windows.

Make sure you've assigned the affinity of the game to a single processor and that CPUkiller is assigned to the same processor. It won't slow the game down if you are slowing one processor and playing the game from another one.

Turbo probably won't help. Using Turbo is like slowing a processor to 1/10 to 1/100 of its speed, when what you need is to slow it to 1/1000 or less. Unless you're running the game and Turbo inside Virtual PC, it probably won't slow enough to see a difference.

SpeedswitchXP can be run alongside other slowdown programs for additional slowing.

You might also try adjusting the mouse speed in your Windows Control Panel.

Hi, Marian!

I knew there was a reason I kept my old WinXP computer lol ! I haven't tried any of the older games on my Windows 7 system yet, but at least I know some of them will still run under WinXP.

I found a great program that runs zork Grand Inquisitor. No need to use the cd to run the game. You don't need to run dos box either. Takes about 10 minutes to install it on your HD.
ZGIcopy.cmd. The first one on the website. It tell you when to put the disks in.
