Im planning to d/l Syberia 2 from GOG. I seem to recall, the first time I played it on disc, that a patch was required. Does anyone know if the d/l version from GOG will require a patch?

Most downloads are already patched or at least include the latesd updates in the package.

If you run into any of the issues below, you can still obtain the patch from The Adventure Company.

freezing problem which occurs randomly in the area with the Giant Robot in Komkolzgrad fixed.
character moving in slow motion when game plays on Pentium 4 Hyperthreading or Xeon processors fixed.
overlapping character voices, and problem with character movement speeds on portable computers fixed.

Syberia SP3 Patch

There was never a patch for the English version of Syberia 2 (unless you're talking about a NoCD, which isn't necessary with GOG games).
There was a patch for the first Syberia, but the GOG download should already be patched.

Well, I downloaded and installed. I've encountered a problem: unable to save. I did a google search for "save game riven" with no luck. The boomer walkthrough says to place cursor at upper left of screen and click, which brings up a menu. when I click "save" or "save as", I crash to desktop with no further dialogue. Any ideas?

Edit: sorry, I started out talking about syberia then switched to Riven. I downloaded Riven instead of Syberia and find that I'm unable to save games. Any help appreciated...

What’s your OS? If you're running Windows 7, and didn't install the game in your user folders, try running the game elevated (as administrator).

Right click the desktop icon (or program shortcut) and select Run as Administrator.

Inland, Im running windows 7, and yes, I'm running as administrator. GOG doesnt seem to offer a choice as to where the game will be installed: It creates a GOG folder in Program Files which contains all your GOG d/l's. There is a folder in Riven root called SAVE.rvn but when the game is started I get no "load" option to select a save. It goes right into the opening video. If I play a few minutes and try to save I get no indication that any type of save was performed-- it goes to desktop. Advice appreciated...

There are some possible solutions in ***this thread in the GOG forum***.

Thank you Jenny; I have studied the thread in the GOG forum and find that (1) the problem I experienced has happened to others, (2) the problem occurs because the downloader installs the game in a "read only" folder, and (3) the workaround is more involved than I care to attempt. I've downloaded 3 games from GOG and have had problems with each one. For the time being I wont be using GOG again.

I've never used the GOG downloader. I just download the files via my web browser. That would avoid them being placed in a read-only folder.

Well, I'm stationed in an area in which d/l speeds and connectivity are shakey at best, and the GOG downloader allows one to resume d/l in case of a lost connection. I'll just stick with
