Hiya,
Has anyone noticed the lack of new Adventure games (not hidden object ones)in Various shops in the UK?
I've never seen Black mirror 3 or any other new game for sale the past year or so.

Anyone know a reason for this?

Cheers !

I stopped long time ago to look for new adventures in high street shops!
They are full of console games nowadays, and if you are lucky enough to find a PC section, you can be sure is only shooters!
I shop mainly on play.com or similar, they are cheaper anyway.

You wont find Black Mirror 3 in any shops anywhere in the world:-) As for buying game from shops - havent done that for a long long time. Buying online used to always guarentee you would get the game (even new ones) at least a third cheaper. That
not so much the case nowadays sadly. Although I managed to order Grey Matter for over 60% off:-)

You won't find Black Mirror 3 in any shops just yet - as it is not released yet wink

Sometimes, when I go to my local Gamestop/EB Games game shop, I see a few adventure games, like Scorpio Ritual or The Whispered World.

A few years ago, they would have maybe 1-2 new adventure games every month or every second month maybe. Now, not so much as I probably were the only one that bought those games, I think?

The reason for not carrying adventure games is, of course, that they don't sell as well as other games, e.g. shooters, rpgs, games for wii, etc. etc.

Luckily, we can then today download those games we love so much fro gamersgate or other digital distribution sources like Steam...

Or if you prefer a physical disc order them from amazon....

Adventure gaming is fun smile

Hi kjos smile

Yes, Dave does ship to the UK and I do also buy from him but it makes sense and saves me money if I can buy in the UK - especially as some of the sites I listed offer free postage rah

Cheers.

I agree with Carla. Should or if a shop is selling PC games, in addition to all the different console games, they are invariably shooters/action etc.

I live in the UK and shop at amazon and play.com. I have also used interactcd.com many many times in the past and, even though there is a shipping charge, it is still excellent value and the service is second to none! Well done again Dave! thumbsup wave

Hi gruffy, you could occasionally buy a new AG from shops like Game & sometimes HMV. But there has over the last year been a noticeable, if gradual, reduction in PC games available in those places overall. Those on offer, apart from other genres, now include many Casual Games.

I usually buy online from Interact, Play.com or Amazon. I'll have to check out that other place, Thehut UK, you mentioned Mad!

I live inthe UK; In the last year I have bought games from the below and these are digital download except for amazon.

bigfishgames
amazon.co.uk
direct2drive
Amanita
GOG
telltalegames

I have not found games elsewhere that I want to buy or play. There is a plague of casual games on amazon I find greatly irritating to wade through. There are of course one or two exceptions eg the painted tower that look like casual games but are more than that as they are not simply hunt the object. It takes at least a year to make an adventure game maybe 2 or 3 but these games use the same template and are 'created' in hours, and have no story etc etc and the sellers like amazon are too thick to realise they are not adventure games and shove them in the same category even when they are informed otherwise by people like me. Rant over.

Unfortunately PC games are less and less common, I regret to be one of the buyers switching to console games blush .

There are several reasons for people switching - one is the cost of the equipment, a good PC able to play demanding games may cost easily 10 times as much as a PS3 or X BOX. Even if you own a good PC, as I do, the game may not play at all or the protection could damage the PC or some part of it.

Console games are more expensive but with the trade in normally result quite cheaper.

Real Adventure Games are PC only, this limits the number of buyers and the protection makes some people, me included, think twice before buying them. I don't know how difficult it is to make them available for consoles too.

Sorry, you make several points there that are not true.

a) PC hardware cost might be double or triple the console cost to play AAA games, but absolutely certainly not 10x. A PS3 will cost say £250 (don't know $ costs, I'm in a UK sterling territory), a decent PC will cost £600-800 (I've never spent more than that in the years I've been playing) ... there's certainly never any need to spend £2,500!!
Even with the 2x/3x multiplier, you get more flexibility and functionality for your money than just the games machine anyway.

b) I've never had a AAA game fail to play altogether, although patches and driver updates aren't unheard of, of course. Xbox 360 and PS3 and Wii all download updates online too, which suggests strongly to me (as a professional programmer), that there are bugs and game issues to be sorted out on those platforms too.

c) "the protection could damage the PC" - actually cause damage ... not very likely. Be a cause of security issues and un-warranted disclosure of data to monitoring web-sites perhaps. But what do you think Xbox Live is? It's a form of online protection and (most importantly for the vendors) a way of seeing who is playing what and when. (Not singling out MS here, I just can't remember what Sony call the PS3 equivalent, and I'm not sure that the Wii Channels work the same way)

I would have to be dragged kickin' and' screamin' to ANY kind of console device eek

Tried 'em and don't like 'em lol

I really enjoy playing games on my PC and of course use it for many things other than just games !! yay

My big worry is that the downloading of games could edge out the disk versions frown

Cheers.

gremlin,

My PC is not the best possible, fully upgradable yes, and I payed $3000 last December for it. I bought the best mastercard and processor but all the rest, since it can be easily upgraded when needed, is not the best. There are several graphic cards over $400.

I bought Sacred once and could never play it, even with the help of the technical advise of people here, after trying again and again to play it my DVD player, quite new, was ruined, not to mention that I had to reinstall everything because the PC would not function very well after that. I know of friends of mine that say they had similar problems.

I don't play on line, not good enough for that, then I don't know if the X BOX protection brings problems. The kind of protection that PS3 has apparently doesn't cause damage either to soft or hardware.

According to my dictionary - Damage: v.tr. To cause damage to, if there is a difference I don't know, probably because English is not my first language.

mad,

I would expect that if they go to console it would be as well as keeping the PC version. A lot of action games have both versions.

mcc, I'm sorry your experience of PC games has been so bad. But if I'd paid $3000 for a PC, I would expect it to be amazing. Someone ripped you off!

Well ...
computers are my hobby, I don't spend much on a car but I am prepared to pay a lot for a PC that I upgrade when needed and last me several years, this is a Dell Studio XPS 9100 with i7 intel, not with the max memory or best graphic cards, there are gaming PCs at $11.000 scared , my PS3 costs $300, and I have not found a game doesn't play or has problems with it yet.

Some of my friends, PC addicts also, supposedly had very bad problems with Starforce protection.

The PC I couldn't play Sacred was an older Dell but at that time top of the line with an ATI Radeon 3850, of course I have not tried to install this game in the new one. I bought Sacred 2 PS3 version.

Somebody gave me Battlfield BC 2 and it played in the PC but the graphics were not perfect, I had played the first in the PS3 with perfect graphics. I had not problems with Mass Effect 2 or any other action games, apart from the small graphic problems mentioned above, with the new PC, these games tend to be more demanding than adventure. I have been very careful what to install and what not in it.

What was the asking price before the 60% was taken off ??

Amazon UK are offering it for £11.71 - which is very good I reckon - but I don't know if they deliver outside of the UK.
