I see Gamersgate has Broken Sword: Shadow of the Templar's Directors Cut for sale. I have the old one but don't know if it will run on xp. Could I have your input on it. $10 isn't a bad price. Thanks Richard

I was wondering if the director's cut would be worth it. I have all the Broken Sword games and love them.

Let us know what you think of the extras in the game. So far, it sounds not too worth it.

I've just started the game, which I haven't played before, and so far I'm loving it.
"Slightly better graphics than the original but still low resolution (windowed mode is tiny on my 24" monitor), not changeable and no widescreen so it's black bars galore, which is my biggest complaint."
Did you go to Options? You can change the screen resolution there and play it in the original size, wide screen or 'augmented' which is somewhere between the two.
There is a hint system that boots you through puzzles and points you at what you need to do next if you need it. I'm not sure if the images of the characters that are inserted are new or not but if they are they don't bother me at all and they're nicely done.

Sorry, you're right, it's Fullscreen but on my widescreen monitor (1600 x 900 resolution) it covers most of the area. I've decided to play Augmented since the graphics look good that way and I don't have to peer at the screen. <g>

Hi I've been intrigued by these posts about "Broken Sword: The Shadow of the Templars, The Director's Cut" Is it fundamentally any different to the original game or is it just that some of the puzzles have been made easier ?? [I bought the DVD version (for XP) of Broken Swords 1 & 2 years ago - but nothing was changed on that apart from being able to run the games in XP.] Cheers. Mad

Mad,
I haven't played the original game but from some of the posts on another forum griping about the changes <g> I gather that Revolution rewrote parts of it, possibly to blend in the new section about Nico with which the game opens. I doubt there is much different apart from that.
Honestly, I have no idea what they're griping about! The inset graphics of the characters, especially George and Nico (the only two animated) are great and don't detract from the game at all. To me, they added something.
The voices..I think they're new or perhaps just redone (Rolf Saxon is terrific as George)...are really good. I noticed a little unevenness in the audio at one point where it abruptly got louder and then subsided again but it wasn't enough to be worrisome.
The original graphics appeared a little blurry in the Fullscreen option but I played Augmented, sort of midway between the original resolution and fullscreen, and they looked fine there.
If Mr. Goat was a pain in the original game (I get the impression he was), he's easily tethered in this one but they made up for it by including (oh, whee!) not one but two sliders early on. Fortunately for me, they could be skipped.
Only one peculiar thing happened. Just after the first murder, when Nico kneels to look at the corpse, she suddenly starts speaking French! Until then, she'd been speaking English. Now, French is a lovely language but I know about 3 1/2 words in it so it's a good thing all I had to do was go to Options and click on the British flag. <g>
Since I had played Broken Sword 2, it was a joy to meet Pearl and Duane again and Ultar was a hoot. Anyway, I don't think you'd be making a mistake if you downloaded this one, even if you hate downloaded games loaded with DRM. It's fun.

Mad,
I finished the game after I wrote about it then went and read the GB walkthrough and thought I should let you know you can't die in the Director's Cut.
I also went back and tackled the lock puzzle. It wasn't bad at all.
One other thing: the very last cut scene on the Eiffel Tower used the new images of Nico and George, which was fine, but midway switched to a different graphic interpretation of these two that didn't match either the old or the new one. It was jarring to me and odd but it certainly didn't affect my overall enjoyment of this very fun game.
