I have been playing Adventure games since the days of Tex Murphy,Zork,Riven, etc. and while I am liking HOG I really like best the type of games like Castle Of Shadows or Mystic Diary, etc. Does anyone have suggestions for more of these story-like casual games...I LOVED Dire Grove! Thanks for any ideas. I just don't like screen after screen of Hidden Objects.

Hi Happy Gamer. We are playing Redemption Cemetary - Curse of the Raven. Good story. You also might try, Return To Ravenhurst 2, Drawn - The Painted Tower. Someone else might have other suggestions.

The first Drawn was so fun, and though I've never played, the 2nd one is getting raves. wave

I really liked Awakening: The Dreamless Castle. There are a few hidden object scenes but they are not the focal point of the game. Highly recommended. smile

Might try the specials, Stone of Destiny and Mirror, Mirror for starters, and the other Echoes of the Past: Royal House of Stone. Some other series may like, Treasure Seekers, Margrave Manor, Enlightenus, Azada, Natalie Brooks and Nick Chase. Some others, Puzzle Bots, Musaic Box, Autumn Treasures The Jade Coin, and Slingo Mystery. There's also a couple of conspiracy ones that can't remember the title. One had an agent finding totems and preventing a summoning and rescuing a couple of kidnapped kids.

Never resist a generous impulse.

Thanks for ideas...I did play Redemtion Cemetery: Curse of the Raven and loved it...Hi Marian..see you have crossed over to enjoy these casual games too....I do miss the great old Golden Years of Adventure games however...though I get why things are changing.

Hi, Happy Gamer!

One of the best casual games I've played is "Nightfall Mysteries: Asylum Conspiracy". It's a prequel to "Nightfall Mysteries: Curse of the Opera" (which I also played and enjoyed) but, for some strange reason, the sequel was released first.

"Vampireville" is also another good one. The dialogue and characters are hilarious, the puzzles are fun and it's quite long so you really get your money's worth.

Happy, I'm definitely playing more casual games now than full-length adventures. The reason is they are cheaper (I'm unemployed), they are a pleasant and amusing escape, and they don't require huge chunks of time to complete and aren't affected adversely by frequent interruptions. I still play some full-length adventure games but not nearly as many as I once did, only playing them now when I feel they are not to be missed (the Nancy Drew games, Black Mirror 2, The Lost Crown, and the upcoming Gray Matter!).

Nice to see you posting. smile

I didn't know there are 2 Drawn's. I have Drawn the Painted Tower. Is it the first one or the second one?

Edit: Oh, maybe I just saw the answer in a different thread. This is the first game and Drawn Dark Flight is the second?

You can always try Brunhilda and the Dark Crystal (yes, shameless auto promotion).

Core mechanic is basically hidden object, but it's as close to "old school" adventure as you can get with HOG. For example the main character is actually walking on the locations.

It often gets compared to Lucas Arts adventure games for it's humour and general feel.

There are too many to choose from! But I really enjoy the Mystery Case Files series. They keep getting better and better!
