Lindy, where are you going for vacation? Don't forget Pirate's Day is coming up, and also if you need to level cooking, it is super fast during Harvest Festival....I went from 0 to 350 in 3 hours last year.

Oh Lindy,I am so jealous! What an adventure!
Yes, you can start from zero and make Grand Master in 3 to 4 hours.....faster if you have a mage to zap you around.
You just need to do a little pre-planning and buy lots of each ingredient so you don't have to move around more often than necessary. You will be zapping from major city to major city but you can do it less often if you plan well.
I started Owl and Snow last year at 0 and stopped at 350 when I trained Grand Master. It was amazing....I'm hoping they don't change that for this year as I have several toons that didn't get to cook last year (or didn't exist last year).
How long will you be gone?

Sherryah, this is World of Warcraft which is a MMORPG......a Massively Multiplayer Online Role Playing Game. It is a hoot and yes, there is a demo Here. It is lots of fun and we have a GameBoomers Guild....It is a big download though, so be prepared. It seems overwhelming at first, but it really isn't. Come join us!

Sherryah, this is exactly how I started WOW. I read all the posts about it from these wonderful people, and had to take a peak at it. And now I'm hooked You can play alone if you want to, but you can also join up with groups or a guild. The learning curve is sooo easy and it can be played with just the mouse

From reading in the beta forums (of course this could change) Hunters are going to be allowed......Are you Ready for this?........ ........25 pets! If true, I'm going to have too much fun taming to level Edit: I found the following information on wow.com Quote:
Patch 4.0.1 will launch several weeks before Cataclysm ships, similar to 2.0.1 and 3.0.2. It will include:
- New launcher - Class changes - Stat changes - Talent tree overhaul - Glyph changes - Reforging? - Mastery? (although it might not be useful until Cataclysm)
Patch 4.0.3 will launch shortly before Cataclysm ships. Based on what Tom Chilton and others have said, this will include (without purchase of Cataclysm):
- Cataclysm intro cinematic and login screen - Revamped classic Eastern Kingdom and Kalimdor zones - New race/class combinations for existing races - Graphics improvements (water, etc) - Guild leveling system?
Cataclysm will ship shortly afterwards and buying it will unlock:
- Level 85 level cap - 525 Profession skill caps - Goblins and Worgen, and their starter zones - New Level 80+ zones, dungeons, heroics, raids - New battlegrounds - Rated battlegrounds - Flying mounts in Eastern Kingdoms and Kalimdor - Archaeology - 310% speed flying mounts?
Please correct anything I got wrong or missed
That looks almost right. Guild Advancement/Achievements should go under Cataclysm launch though and mount speed changes should be moved up to 4.0.1.

Me too, guys! So excited! I want to start a Goblin!! It'll be my first Horde toon! I did the Gnomeregan quests on my 80 Hunter, and it was fun. I sure missed you all while I was on vacation. Missed WoW too. Could've taken my laptop and did think about it, but now am glad I didn't haul it with me. Travel is hard enough with all the security and what-not. Tiring just thinking about it. Once on the cruise, it was great. Getting there and home afterward, not so much. Really missed my cats and they missed me too. See you all in game I hope! Andrea

The last I read about release date was around start of november I too will be starting a Goblin - they look awesome and reading about the starting zone for them was the funniest thing ever. I think I have to check out the public test patch to see how the hunter focus thing work... Just to have something to do while waiting

Hmmmm....seems like Cata is just around the corner. Operation Gnomeregan (Alliance) and Zalazane's Fall (Horde) are now live. They are cute little quest chains which explain how the 2 new starting areas were reclaimed. They take about 30 minutes and you get a Feat of Strength for it. If you have a 75-80 toon, take a few minutes and participate in WoW history. I did Operation: Gnomeregan with my lvl 52 - but didn't get an achievement Why is that??

Misslilo, you can do most of Operation Gnomeragan or its Horde counterpart with any level toon...including getting the Pride that will let you morph. But you have to be at least 75 (and I read 78 in one place) to receive and complete the final quest. (I don't have a toon in that range so can't test it for myself) In that, you actually battle for control of Gnomeragan/Lost Isles. You get the achieve for the battle.
I was so happy to find that I could get the Pride trinket on my lower toons though. They are all happily running around in Battlebot suits or Troll suits.

I really need to start reading up on this stuff! I knew there would be changes, but this is major.
I hope the new gear looks better! I'm tired of running around looking like I'm dressed in a carpet, lol

Sherryah, not really. Your toon will say things like "that's not ready yet" or laugh or tell jokes, but they don't talk otherwise. I just got notice from Amazon that my Cata CE won't ship until Jan 2011 I ordered from several places so it will be interesting to see the order they get them in.

Is Cataclysm postponed until then?? I thought it was due out in November. I don't know now if I should order from Amazon. Darn.
It must be just them. A lot of the big patches have been coming out lately. I had one last week that took 12 hours to download.

JeanK, I don't think there has been an official date but I've heard Nov. 2 quite often. Amazon is often late to the party. Everything I've seen from Blizzard is still saying 2010. Speculation is rampant that the date will be announced at Blizzcon.

Thanks, Looney. I asked online tonight and people are still saying November/December. I'm just not sure yet what I'll do. I want the game sooner, rather than later, but I have these giftcards. Sigh.
Still thinking about what to make. Why couldn't Blizz make new classes that looked halfways decent instead of worgans and goblins? lol.

I found this little info Thus far, Blizzard has been characteristically tight-lipped regarding the release date of Cataclysm the third expansion for its mega-MMOG World of Warcraft. It'll be out when it's done, of course, and not a moment sooner.
We may now have some idea just when, exactly, that moment will be: December 7th.
This is an unofficial date and has not yet been confirmed by Blizzard, of course. Still, there's a fair bit of evidence supporting the theory: Two WoW fan sites (MMO Champion and WoWHead) both independently noticed that the latest patch notes contained the following information:
"Arena battles and Rated Battlegrounds are only available during an active player versus player combat season. Season nine will begin on December 14th, so be prepared at that time to take your shot at glory!"
Some of you may be saying, so the new arena season begins on December 14th? That doesn't really tell us anything unless we're fans of PvP combat, right? Maybe, maybe not - but then we have this post from official Blizzard representative Zarhym, which says that the new arena season will begin "approximately one week after the official launch of World of Warcraft: Cataclysm." Not only is December 7th a week before the planned new arena season, it's also a Tuesday - the day on which Blizzard (and indeed, most major developers) releases all of its games.
If that wasn't enough, a WoWInsider poster also spotted a throwaway line in one of the fluff pieces surrounding the retaking of Gnomeregan event: "[With] the fall of the Lich King, the last great threat to the citizens of Azeroth, the chance of any cataclysmic event taking place in the foreseeable future is 'less than 12.7%,' Mekkatorque's leading combat medical advisor Doc Cogspin purported."
12.7%, hm? Cheeky, Blizzard. Very cheeky.
As always, this is a rumor and shouldn't be taken as the gospel truth until we hear something official from Blizzard - but if you wanted to start booking your days off in advance right now, I don't think we'd blame you.
Incidentally, this means that the expansion will have been in a beta testing stage for six months at launch, half again as long as either of the previous two. I guess there's just more to test this time around.
