I am trying to replay this game on XP and things are just not working properly. I have gone to the "boat" and entered that age. I have drained the water in the trunk at the bottom of the lighthouse and when I add the water back the trunk is not floating. I can jiggle the key but that is it. I tried this game earlier in the day and went to the Mechanical age instead. While in the clock tower I was supposed to see a hologram of where the Myst book was for this age but not. I knew where to go so entered that Age. There is a device that makes the other islands accessible and you are supposed to hear noises etc. when you turn to the cardinal points of the compass but that was silent also. I uninstalled and reloaded the game but still isn't working second time around. This is a brand new OS and should be working properly. I did notice DX7 when I loaded the game and I have DX11. Can that be a problem and if so what do I do? I have played this very game in the past and it worked perfectly. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

EDIT: Ooops, just did a DXDiag and see I have DX 9.0c in my XP.

Make sure you're not forgetting things. You may have to shut the valve back on the trunk to keep the water from getting back in when you add the water back. Otherwise a trunk full of water won't float. I don't remember a hologram of the Myst book in the clock tower, though I may be forgetting. There was a hologram projector in the basement near the ship dock. To hear the sounds for the cardinal points of the compass, don't you have to move the rotation controls in a certain way? If you have the controls set between places, you don't get a sound. Have you practiced on the Fortress Rotation Simulator to get the timing right?

I did shut the valve, I think. I will try this again. And yes, I did practice with the projector and didn't hear anything on any of the stops it made. That was the first time I tried it so can't go back at this time to double check. I am wondering if I set my Hardware/sound acceleration in DX down a bit if that will help?? I will double check on the trunk and let you know. Thank you, Becky. wave

EDIT: Oh Becky! You were right, how logical I am not at times. The trunk floated and I have proceeded. I did lower my acceleration also...??!!
