Darkstar - The long awaited Sci-Fi FMV starring Clive Robertson and the original cast of Mystery Science Theater 3000 Now available for sale at the darkstarstore (boxed copies) and Strategy First for a download.

The retail version will also be available at Amazon also on November 5th. Brick and mortar stores will follow in February 2011.

Quote:
A tale of murder and deception with nothing less than the fate of humanity at stake. A quest to turn back time itself, cheat fate, and write a new future for mankind.

DARKSTAR - The Interactive Movie is experienced through exploration and discovery on a wrecked starship light years from earth - a world that has centuries before been annihilated.

You awaken inside a cryogenic sleep chamber aboard the drifting starship, Westwick. You experience most of the drama "first person", through the eyes of Captain John O'Neil. You are physically unharmed, but you suffer from a complete and permanent loss of memory.

You explore the starship to find clues as to who you are and what your mission is. Beside you are three other sleep chambers. One is empty. In the other lies a beautiful woman, still in hibernation. The final chamber is shattered and in it lies the corpse of a man, 300 years dead and missing its left hand. The ship's computer, Westwick Main assists you, but much of her memory has been deleted by someone unknown.

Your wits are your greatest weapon in this story of suspense and interplanetary intrigue. Nothing is as it seems and despite the icy, cold silence... you're not alone.

DARKSTAR takes you on an epic science fiction journey of discovery and exploration featuring the entire original cast of Mystery Science Theater 3000, stars Clive Robertson, and is narrated by the late Peter Graves.

With more footage than any"game" ever produced, DARKSTAR is a true Interactive Movie with live-action actors and lavishly animated scenery creating a world like no other. ..

I also thought it was suppose to be on 6 dual layer dvd's. I also heard that if you install the whole game to your hard drive that it will take 16 gigs to do it.

Will have to give this a look. I'm not sure that it lives up to the hype in the trailer - a game, with the look of a film. I think the graphics look pretty dated, with some graininess and colour mismatch between the video and CG, and some artifacts around the edges too. Par for the course for the older FMV games, but to say it is as good as a movie is plainly false.
I don't want to put the hate on as there are obviously many fans already here, and I will be playing the game at some point. I just always find the hype funny. I hope that the game itself is great!

Here is an update for those having issues with the download, taken from their FB page:

Quote:
STRATEGY FIRST DOWNLOADS NEWS:

Just got off the phone with my buddy Emanuel Wall at SF and they are working on this like crazy. The holdup is because DARKSTAR is huge, weighing in at 13.5GB and they are working on a custom wrap to make the download easy for you guys. I'll have details soon, but they are going to offer a... discount for the wait, and even give you a crazy deal on one of their other games as well! They hope to have it up by early next week, their guys are burning the midnight oil all weekend to make it happen. EVERYONE, a big hip-hip-hooray for Emanuel! Hip-hip....

This is certainly an interesting game, if not for its development history.

It reminds me of the bygone era of Full Motion Video games. Few succeeded; many failed.

It is amazing that they got Peter Graves to narrate the game. What a treat!

Still, I must say I have some reservation about the graphics. It looks dated and the bluescreening/greenscreening does not blend well at all. Perhaps the YouTube video did not do justice to the video quality of the real deal.

I have got this game and it's amazing, so is the soundtrack. I bought it from the Darkstar site but beware if you want to do this as you'll have to pay customs charges which are nearly half as much again as the cost of the game. There's loads of extras on the discs including bloopers, behind the scenes book etc. Worth the money.

Of course you can download it.

I want to get the soundtrack ands am hoping it's going to be available in uk soon
