Hi all

I found a really nice Carribean beach picture which I downloaded and inststalled as my desktop wallpaper. However the desktop keeps changing to Windows wallpaper. If I reset the pic as my wallpaper, right click the desktop and then personalize the pic is shown as my wallpaper but the time setting is greyed out. Any suggestions as how I can keep my Carrib pic as my permanent wallpaper? thanks in advance.

The time settings only appear when a theme with multiple backgrounds is selected.

Ok Inland but how do I keep the wallpaper pic I want from changing to Windows desktop wallpaper?

I use personal wallpapers all the time in my Win 7. I have them in a folder called - strangely enough - Wallpapers! I just right click on the picture I want and select "set as background" and that's what stays there until I decide to change it.

Did you save the download to your hard drive or just select it from the download website?

I saved it to my HD and I do exactly what you said but it keps changing on me to the Windows 7 wallpapers.

Hmmm... When I right click on the desktop and select personalize, I have three headings: My Themes (where I see my current picture), Aero Themes and Basic and High Contrast Themes. At the bottom of the screen, my picture shows up as Desktop Background along with my selections for Window Color, Sounds and Screen Saver.

What do you have at the bottom of the screen?

Does it change to any particular Windows wallpaper consistently? When does it change? On reboot or just anytime?

On boot it will load to any wallpaper that was up when I shut down. After it's on for a period of time it changes to different Windows wallpapers in the aero theme pics. When I had an aero theme shot selected as my wallpaper previous to using the carib beachshot it stayed for as long as I wanted to use it. It's as if somehow it thinks I want to use an aero theme slideshow and I can't seem to shut it off.

You may have saved it to an existing "Theme" directory. Try saving it to My Pictures and then change your wallpaper.

I actually created a theme in the "personalize" folder where the aero shots etc. are and put the pic in there. So far so good but it hasn't been up that long.

I suspect that's your problem, Barry. I have all my personal pictures and downloads that I use for wallpapers in a folder in My Pictures.

I put the picture in My Pictures but it still changes.

I might have found something Inland and Dralvr. In a Google search I found that all the Windows wallpaper pics are located in
C;/Windows/Web/Wallpaper. I changed the name of the Web and Wallpaper folders so Windows can't find them. Hopefully this will solve the problem (hope I don't get a black screen for my wallpaper now, LOL).

That is so strange, Barry! Mine are located the same place, but when I tell Windows 7 to make something my wallpaper, it stays!

Somehow the name change didn't do a thing and the wallpaper still changed.

I suggest against changing the names of any folders in C:\Windows without a really good reason.

Instead, I'd recommend copying the background image you want to use somewhere else, like copying it to a folder in My Pictures. Then open the control panel and click on "Change desktop background" under Appearance and Personalization (or click Personalization-->Desktop Background if you're not in Category View). Change the Picture Location to "Pictures Library," or click Browse and manually navigate to the folder the picture is in.

If there's more than one image in the folder, then multiple images will be selected. Click "Clear all" to clear all the checkboxes, then click the thumbnail of the picture you want. A checkbox should now be checked above only that picture. The drop-down box under "Change picture every" should now be greyed-out, since you only have one picture selected. Click Save Changes and keep your fingers crossed.

I have a restore point for before I changed the name of the foldoer so no problem there. I also set up a new folder in personalization (just right click on the desktop, don't have to go to conrol panel) and put 2 pics in there , both Carib. beach scenes and set the timer for 12 hous before change. I never have the computer running for that long so hopefully this will solve the problem.

I've had no problems with wallpapers at all. I keep the personal pics and a few downloads from Digital Blasphemy in a file titled Wallpapers in My Pictures. I select the "set as desktop background" from there and nothing changes unless I do it.

Could it have something to do with the fact that Barry tried to save this in the Aero themes in the Personalization option? I wonder what would happen if you deleted that saved theme...

Do your personalization settings specify Slide Show like the image below?

If it states Background there's no reason it should be changing, short of a third party desktop application.

It says background at the bottom with my selected pic but it still keeps changing. I even paused slideshow setting in advanced power options but it still changes.

I think I asked before... does it change to a particular one each time?

It sounds like either an installed program or a bug is changing your desktop theme around.

Since this all started with the Caribbean picture, I have to wonder if the picture had software installed alongside it.

So, which website supplied the picture? Did the site have you install any software before you downloaded?

I wondered that too, Demosthenes. If Barry can select some other picture and it will "stick," I'd have to wonder about the Caribbean picture itself. Even though I trust Digital Blasphemy, I always run the downloaded pics through Malwarebytes.

I've tried with 4 different pics, all with the same result. Plus I have 3 different malware apps running side by side and if there was anything at least one of them would have detected it.
