I just recently noticed that prices on Big Fish games have gone up - 50 cents on regular editions and a dollar on CEs

This is not a complaint - I completely understand, and we're still getting a very good deal. I'm surprised, tho, that we didn't get any notice from BF. At least I didn't - has anyone received a notice?

THe prices are the same, you can choose what currency you wish to pay with though and that is new. You may have taxes where you live and that could account for the increase.

Well when I tried to change the currency from dollars to Pounds, it told me I would have to pay £6.99 which I know is not correct, so I quickly changed the currency back to dollars.

Some of you have to pay tax, i.e. you pay more than $6.99 for a game?

I pay 8.4% tax here in Washington so my games cost 7.58.

I child-proofed my home... but they're still getting in!

Being a Candian and paying in US dollars, brings the amount up as it is shown in Canadian dollars.

So, even though it looks like the cost has gone up, it hasn't. What has gone up is the xchange rate.

Check where it says what you pay and notice whether or not it is US$ or Candian$

There is a very big thread on this in the Big Fish forums, especially from the overseas people who have to pay VAT (Value added Tax).

I live in Canada, and pay by credit card in US dollars. So if our dollar goes up as it is now, almost at par, my cost decreases.

So I pay $6.99 US which my credit card adjusts to Canadian dollars according to the exchange rate.

So my monthly price changes month to month according to the exchange rate.

I just checked my bank account, PayPal and my BF account, and it seems that if I pay in Candian dollars, which they have me at for downloading games, I pay more. So, I opted to pay US$ for both download and monthly charge. Not sure why they decided to seperate the 2 but they did, so make sure you have both checked off for US$.

Just been looking around on their site and noticed that the full price of the CE versions is $19.99. Isnt that what Americans pay for full blown adventure games? Have the CEs always been this expensive? I was a bit shocked I must say - I always thought one of the benefits of casuals is supposed to be that they are dirt cheap.

Casual games have been and still are 19.99 as a general starting price. The reductions come from certain portals having lower pricing structures such as BigGFish. If you go to the store to pick them up they are all 19.99 whether or not they are CE's.

Just had a check on one of my orders - game was $6.99 and they charged $1.22 tax on top of that. Never noticed that before.

They have to charge taxes if where you live it is required that they do so. Each state has different tax laws as well as each country.

Whatever we end up paying, we still get a great deal on our BFG games, dont we? Best value for games anywhere in the world!

For some reason ( I did know at one time lol ) for Canadians, it is cheaper (lower exchange rate)to sell US$ than to buy US$.

So if your card is charged in US$ you are "selling" to change to Can$. but if you are charged in Can$ you are "buying" to change to US$.

Banks seem to charge a higher rate to "buy" than to "sell"

Hi, orchid girl!

The banks charge about 2.5% to buy and sell US dollars over and above what the exchange rate is at the time. In order to break even when purchasing from the States, our dollar would have to be worth at least 2.5% more than the US dollar. Of course, BFG doesn't charge the dreaded HST, so we're still saving 10.5%.

I've always paid in US dollars when I download from BFG, but I'm wondering if I can save the 2.5% if I pay in Canadian dollars. Does anyone know if BFG charges a fee to convert?

Susan

I pay through PayPal and they do the conversion.
Paying in US$ against my Cdn bank, the difference was 67 cents. That was Oct 31, in Nov BF charged me 14.99 Cdn. a difference of a $1.

I am better off paying US$ I buy a lot of games and even though it only a small amount, those small amounts add up.
