HI, I have just started this game. It is running fine, but when I exit and go back into the game, it is starting from the beginning again and does not seem to be saving. On the screen where it normally says Welcome Sam, after I have put my profile in the box it is just saying welcome player, as if I am just starting the game. Any advice please Sam

Try running the computer as an administrator.
Right-click the shortcut and choose to "Run as Administrator."

Alternatively you could try uninstalling the game and reinstalling into your My Documents (or just Documents on Windows 7 or Vista) folder. If you got the game from Big Fish, you'll have to adjust the Big Fish Game Manager and tell it where to install the game. Open the Big Fish Game Manager and click Options near the bottom. Among other things, there should be an adjustment for Game Location.

Vista and above have access restrictions on the Program Files folder, running it as Administrator bypasses it.

In other words, Vista is "protecting" your computer from unauthorized changes being made to the Program Files folder. Unfortunately these changes can include a game making a save. If you play as administrator, the game is given the "authority" to create or update the save, even if the game is installed in C:\Program files.

I also have another game which will not even start. Valerie Porter and the Scarlet Scandal. I have tried running this as administrator but I get message each time windows is closing this game down. (it never tells me why)I wonder if I uninstall it and try to reinstall in My Documents this game may work as well. Thank you for your explanation. Sam

It wouldn't hurt to try installing it to your User folders, although it's probably another issue.

Have you tried running the game in compatibility mode? Right click the shortcut and select Properties, Compatibility - choose Windows XP and see if it starts.

If the game promptd you to update DirectX allow it to refresh the libraries.

Edit -

According to the thread below - there may be an issue with Flash.

Valerie Porter and the Scarlet Scandal Forums

The problem with the crash is Flash 10 causes a conflict. Go to Adobe and grab the older version 9 and install it. This worked fine. It made me go through the game quickly though, as I play other grames that require 10.
