Since "Casual Games" are pretty much all I play anymore, I wanted to get some input on Windows 7. I currently have windows vista, and am quite happy with it. I can upgrade to windows 7 at any time. Does anyone have any insight into this? Is windows 7 better, same, or worse for playing casual games? Thanks

I'm still on Windows XP so I can't speak from personal experience, but I have read quite a few threads in the Big Fish forums about running games on Windows 7; it seems to be roughly on a par with running games on Vista and in general seems to be quite successful. I occasionally see a note from a Windows 7 user that some older game they purchased does not work anymore, and that when this happens, Big Fish offers them a game credit. I also have seen a few notes from folks who have gotten a few problematic older games to run by using compatibility mode.

Anyway, let's see what the users of this OS have to say. wave12

I had a Vista laptop which played all off BF's games with no problem.

Now I have a Windows 7 laptop and have not had any trouble. Have re-loaded some old games I had bought from BFish and they played just fine.

Ditto on the Windows 7 upgrade from Vista...I have had no problems with either with games. As to my old games, adventure type, I have kept and cleaned up an old laptop that has XP on it in order to play those games, and to use programs that don't run on either Vista or 7 that I use or need.

I do like Windows 7 better than Vista, but that may be just personal preference as Vista seemed to cause some problems. The only thing that I have had trouble with on 7, and it may be just the computer, is a non-responsive IE often. This seems to be a problem that is discussed in the forum from the manufacturer.

I've been running a 64-bit Windows 7 system for over a year and a half. I have yet to find a casual game that wouldn't play. I've got dozens of games from BFG, including some old ones. They all play perfectly.

There is a Windows 7 and Games thread stickied at the top of the Glitches forum if you have any more gaming questions about Window 7.

I am still on XP. My computer was purchased in 2005 so it is fast getting out of date. Some games that I download will not work but that is due mostly to an outdated video card. It's time for a new computer! I have always liked XP. Wish microsoft would have stuck with it! Is there much change in the new windows?

I am moving this to Glitches since it's more computer related than game related.

Vista was shot out of the gate too early, in part to keep up with the MAC OS-X, it had many issues with the hardware makers supplying drivers so many folks who bought it could not use their printers, scanners, etc. MS tried patching it and supplying Service Packs but a bit too late - the bad taste it left with folks spread fast. Their next move was to bring out Windows 7 which is built on Vista technology but with a vastly improved computer "instruction set" (a techy term) and a number of improvements deep into the operating system itself. OK - I am getting windy -

You should have no problem playing those games on Windows 7. I have not seen any problems myself with it.

If you're happy with what you have, why change it? There are games at Big Fish that list XP/Vista as compatible but do not mention Windows 7. That doesn't necessarily mean they won't work with Windows 7, but there are some people at Big Fish who are having trouble -- especially with their older casual games. If you do a Google search for

"windows 7" site:bigfishgames.com

you can find threads in the Big Fish forum where people are having trouble. Whether the problem is Windows 7 itself or the drivers being made for it, the result is the same.

You know what you have is working for your games. Unless there is some other reason besides games that makes you want to change to Windows 7, there seems little point in taking the risk of losing a few of them.

After SP1 was released Vista issues virtually disappeared for me. As sureshot stated there were several driver problems early on, but those were addressed long ago.

If you have SP1 (or SP2) installed there’s really no significant difference between the operating systems.
