I remember reading here somewhere about CCleaner sometimes deleting saved games.

Is it only in certain cases of downloaded games ??
[I couldn't find the thread to check which downloads can be affected woozy12]

The only other game was Machinarium and that was because the saves were Flash based, as are the game saves in Ameritas. But all you have to do is go into CCleaner and tell it to leave those saves alone. Even in the French page Chief linked to, you can see it's telling you to go into Options and find the path to the Ameritas save games and tell CCleaner to ignore them.

Other than Machinarium, CCleaner has never deleted a saved game for me in several years of using it.

Hum! I'm so very surprise that you get the French page. I even checked at my wife's computer to see that she also gets the French link. eek12

Yet when I click the HERE in my post, I get the English link that I linked from.

Luckily you can click the English flag.

Hi - And thank you both for responding happydance12

I wanted to be sure of being safe before I use CCleaner again because all my saves for Tales of Monkey Island suddenly disappeared a few days ago and the only thing I could think of was that I'd used CCleaner.
[Fortunately, because of the "seperate chapter" system, I did only have to replay one chapter wink12]

But I'm also playing the Frogware casual & downloaded game of "Hound of the Baskervilles" and I'm presuming there is only the ONE save for that - which gets overwritten each time I quit the game ??
And obviously I don't want to lose THAT scared

So do you know if Sherlock is safe with CCleaner ??

Thanks, as always.

Cheers.

Mad, I just ran CCleaner on both Programs and the Registry and my Hound of the Baskervilles game is right where I left it!

In the unfortunate event that you do delete some some save files, or any files, you can try and use recuva, from the same company as the one releasing CCleaner to try and recover your files. You will need a 2nd hard disk though as it increases the possibility of successfully recovering your file if you attempt to recover it on a different hard drive.
