I installed the game today and it ran Ok, I went back to it and I had my bottom bar flashing on and off and it crashed and left screen in the wrong resolution - I righted that and checked with William Fisher's instructions, he talks about 'codecs' I did a search and found 9 although none of the ones he mentioned. I don't have the faintest idea what codecs are so I am not about to delete any of them, he also talks about a cine pack which I have not yet installed since I don't know if I need it, I have uninstalled the game but would like to play it, any ideas? I am using XP sp3 and have ATI radeon HD 5450. crazy

You absolutely need the CinePak codec to play the game. However, it may conflict with one or more other codecs. No way to tell unless you uninstall the other codecs one by one which will likely cause other problems on your system.

If the opening movie or intro WRF Studios logo appears and plays ok... then it is NOT a codec issue.

The flashing bar and crash to desktop may be caused by something else.

However, if you do NOT see the opening logo and intro movie - you may need to un-install other additional third-party codecs add-on packs. (For some reason some of these can conflict with the "cinepak" codec)

Note: If you are unfamiliar with how to do this - please ask for help.

Ok I reinstalled the game and I do see the opening logo and the intro movie, do I still need to install the cinepak?

Unless you’ve uninstalled or modified the codec, it should be installed - every version of Windows ships with it.

Check under Control Panel, Device Manager, Sound video and game controllers. Select Video Codecs and press the Properties tab; if you see iccvid.dll in the list, you've got it installed.

Highlight the entry, select Properties, Settings. From there you can view the version number, it should read: 1.10.0.11.

OK its me again!! The game is playing up again, I tried to use Inland's advice but can't find Device Manager, I am using XP and I am very familiar with the Control Panel, but still can't find it, is it a different name under XP?

It's located in the System Applet -

Start, Control Panel, System - press the Hardware Tab and then Device Manager.

Thank you, I do have exactly as you say, however the game is still playing up, I get the bottom bar flashing on and off during the game, and a white screen sometimes, and it leaves my desktop in the wrong resolution, now I can correct that but I am getting fed up with having to do so. It has also (weirdly) changed to font on the desktop and office 2003 and I can't seem to get it back to before - any ideas?? hardwall
