I am trying to enter the dates on the coffin in the cemetary but can't seem to figure it out. I have the dates for the fire ,date of birth, year mansion was rebuilt, etc. but the numbers on the grid don't correspond with the dates that I have. The numbers can't be rotated or changed so I am not sure what to do.

Thanks.

Here's some info about the dates on the coffin:

Click to reveal..

The death date is on the front of the mausoleum; the date of the fire and the rebuild date should all be in your journal/casebook if you looked at all the newspaper clippings you came across in the game. The birth date takes several steps to discover. You must win at a game of checkers with Vinton in the tavern, you may also hit the "skip" button which counts as a win. But if you don’t beat him or hit "skip" you cannot progress. After you win, he will tell you he will have a fax sent to you with info about the manor. Go to the den (where the computer is) and click on the fax, then click on the piece of paper in the fax. The birth date will be in the bottom right of the page and is handwritten. Once you look at the page from the fax, the birth date will be entered in your journal. This is another randomly generated solution. You cannot use the solution from the strategy guide or the walkthrough, you can only use the date given to you by your game. Once you have entered all of the dates (vertically or horizontally only) you must click on the lever on the left of the number board.

Let us know how it goes. smile

Thanks Marian,

I have already done this and have all of the dates I need. The problem is that I am not sure how to enter the dates because the letters on my grid don't seem to correspond with the dates in my journal. Maybe I am trying to put them on the grid in the wrong place. Since this is a randomly generated puzzle, I guess I will just have to keep trying and hope that something will work. This puzzle can't be skipped, so if I can't get through it, I won't be able to complete the game frown

I hope you can get past it. Let us know. smile The dates should go from top to bottom or from left to right, if I remember correctly. Also try backing out of the puzzle so that the puzzle can reset after a failed attempt. wave

The date of birth is the only date that is unique to your puzzle. The other 3 dates are always the same. Some people have trouble because in some games some of the dates may appear more than once and they have to figure out which one the game wants.

SPOILER -- these are the 3 dates that always appear:
Click to reveal..
I'm sure one is 1812 and the other 1808 and I think the last is 1806. Some think they have 1872 but it is actually 1812. DOB is in 17**

lazydaisy,

Your help worked! I did have 1872 instead of 1812. Also, I thought that I had to put the numbers on the panel to go with the writing on the side. In other words, the top of the page had "year of my death" going horizontilly across the top so I thought that the date had to go across horizontically etc. I can be too literal sometimes! Once I got the right date and realized that the numbers could be put on the panel anywhere, as long as they were correct, it worked.

Now I am stuck on the piano. The game won't let me use my screwdriver on the side panel. I have the map pieces from the various pictures so I don't know what I am missing.

Thanks!

Have you tried putting the end of your cursor on the screw heads instead of the tip of the screwdriver? wave

Gatsbygirl,
Glad you got that worked out! That has been a real problem area for lots of others.

Marian,
I think the developers thought all us "women" playing this game wouldn't know how to use a screwdriver anyway, so they made it plumb difficult. {joke, sarcasm} wink

I found that I had to lay the screwdriver across the bolt, so that the bolt was in the middles of the screedriver, and it would open. Not how a screwdriver is used but this is a game, so I should experct a challenge.

Now I have about had it with the cannon and the map pieces. I have entered the roman numerals on the cannons multiple times and nothing happens. I followed the symbol (on the cannon)and matched it on the map and used those numbers. The numbers aren't in a straight line so maybe I have picked up the wrong numbers or put them on the wrong place on the cannon. I'm not sure what I am doing wrong but it has become very tiresome.

The hint functions keeps giving the same hint and I can't skip it. I even looked at the blog walkthrough and put in the same numbers that it used. Am I supposed to press something or does it just open when the righ numbers are placed on it

Thanks.

One of our posters, Guybrush Threepwood, had this advice about the cannons and the map:

Quote:
You have to search the map to find the images that match the 6 tabs that are between the symbols on the cannon and write down the roman numerals. Then click on the buttons on the cannons in order. Six sets of numbers for each cannon.

Hang in there, gatsbygirl - It took me three whole evenings to conquer this puzzle - almost gave up and then I read Guybrush's advice, and voila, success at last - Once you have got the hang of what to do, it simply takes about 10 minutes to complete - Good luck luck

Rosaboobie,

Thanks for the encouragement but I have been doing what was suggested. I am about to ask for someone to send me a spoiler so that I will know how the game ends because I am about to give up.

gatsbygirl,
If the cannons in the swamp really have you down, I'd like to help. I'd hate for you to quit after this long. Think of each map piece independently. Nothing goes in a straight line. I wrote down the Roman Numeral for each map piece after I found it. Then made sure I entered them in the correct order to correspond with the map pieces along the edge. When you get a number correct, a button will automatically depress on the cannon. Make sure you are entering roman numerals correctly, not backward. Example: XXXII cannot be IIXXX.

I'm stuck. I have to collect the cleaning supplies but all I have in my inventory is a bucket. I'm supposed to have a coat hanger in there. There is no hidden object area to look for anything.

You get the coat hanger from a hidden object scene in the closet next to Mary (maybe this hasn't been triggered yet?). As for the other cleaning supplies, have you checked out the bathroom, for starters? wave

For some reason, no hog in closet. Re-started game and everything worked out fine. Not sure what happened the first time. Thanks for the help.

Did anyone run into this problem? I got to the cemetary gate but for some reason the game kept telling me to get another key which I already had. So, even though I had all 4 keys, I still couldn't get the lock opened. It's like the game didn't recognize I had picked up all the keys. I have started over with another name but haven't gotten that far yet. Would still be curious as to why it won't recognize all 4 keys.

I was wondering if you had reached the keys yet in your restarted game, Bets. I still haven't come across anyone who had the exact same problem that you have had with the game, but that doesn't mean that someone hasn't experienced it. headscratch

Many had trouble with this part of the game, Tammy. Have you read all of the explanations here?

Something there might possibly help. luck

I liked the cannon puzzle, but I think I'm the only one! It did take some serious hunting on that map though.
