Am I the only one who has been having problems with this browser lately? Thanks.

I haven't either, although I use it very infrequently. It's possible one of the plug-ins needs updating.

After getting more than fed-up with IE,
I'm on my second time of trying Firefox.
It seems to start out doing okay, then it simply starts degrading,
for lack of a better word.
Dumped it in Dec. & started using Google Chrome,
works great and is very fast,
but seems to have a big time compatibility problem with
Club Pogo, which I visit everyday.
Was just coming here to ask for a suggestion of a more reliable program.
Will be interested in seeing the responses you receive!

I can't imagine what you mean by "degrade." I've been using Firefox on both of my computers for 6 years with not a single problem.

What's been happening quite a bit, is I get the message something like: "oops, Firefox has encountered a problem." Then, you're given the option of restarting it or closing it. I've reported the problem a few times, but no response as yet. I also don't like IE, and that's why I'm using (or trying to use) Firefox. It's been great, until recently.

Laurette,
Does this happen at random regardless of the url or is there some specific site that causes this problem?

There are many, if not most sites, that do not conform to good WWW specs. These sites also don't recognize all major browsers so you sometimes have to fool the sites into thinking you are using a different browser.

Can you post a specific site that will cause Firefox to barf?

It hasn't happened today, but if/when it does, I will. Thanks.

When I used the term degrade, I meant it begins to act up now and then,
but the problems slowly escalate.
For instance the dreaded blue screen:
"Sorry, Firefox can't access this page/site,
or sorry Firefox has timed-out attempting to access this site."
etc

If you are still having these problems I would download the latest FF, uninstall your present FF and from here you have 2 choices:

1)An uninstall keeping your "user data and settings" and see if this helps.
2)If you are still having problems, uninstall and keep nothing, don't worry, you do not have to loose all your settings, etc., just follow the link below on how to keep your stuff:

Something tells me your issues are not Firefox related, but have something to do with your internet connection or perhaps you haven't cleared out your cache (Tools/Clear Recent History). Try Starcom's suggestions, but if you have the latest version of Firefox, I don't think the browser is the problem.

Thank you both. I may not have the latest version, will check. I have cleaned up my system (almost every week) and defrag/virus checked, etc.

"...you sometimes have to fool the sites into thinking you are using a different browser."

Just out of curiosity, how do you do that?

I have the occasional problem using Opera on sites which aren't optimized for it, Laurette...for instance, I cannot see the "I accept" box to check when I'm buying a game at The Adventure Shop so I always have to guess where it is (no big deal, I know where it's supposed to be so I always find it)...but the odd glitch aside, if you're unhappy with Explorer (or Chrome, katbear) and these problems with Firefox keep up, try Opera. I absolutely love it, especially the ability to use mouse gestures to go back, forward, reload, etc. Not to mention that it's very fast.

At any rate, an alternative.

Gil.

I'm glad I saw this post. My FF is working perfectly well on This computer. But on my elder pc, I have had to switch to IE which is so dreadfully slow. And why? I get the same message Laurette mentioned and also it hangs and hangs and hangs some more. I am going to try to uninstall and start over. Strange because I have used this browser for almost as long as it has been around and never had trouble with it before. It very well might be my old pc. I wouldn't use Google Chrome as I have heard that it has many security issues???!!

I have had the same problems with Firefox in the past. Usually updating it fixes the problems. For me, an update to Firefox often causes Java, Flash, Shockwave and other programs of that type to need an update. So I have had to update those also. I'm wondering if the sites causing problems are using some of those programs and that is the issue -- Java, Flash, etc.

Also try uninstalling or disabling any add-ons. Sometimes those cause problems. If FF works Ok then enable them one at a time to see if you can identify one that is "the culprit".

Thanks for the advice. I've updated Firefox and, today, haven't had the problem.

Have decided to give "Opera" a spin.
Like it so far, but still learning my way round.

Earlier I was asked what website I was using when the problem occurs. I am playing a BFG's game, go to desktop, go to bookmark and choose w/t. That's when it happens. I restart and it works that time.
