EDIT: Hi everyone. I have a feeling I'm going to have lots of questions about Morrowind and so Ana said I could use this same thread and just change the subject line. I guess I'll put my original question at the bottom, but if it needs to be moved or changed, please let me know. Thanks everyone! Tracy, who is coming up with questions even as we speak Hi everyone. I've just started playing Morrowind again because I never finished it, and I'm having a heck of a time killing the ancestral ghost who is in the cavern with the girl I need to take to Sadrith Mora for a Mage's Guild quest. I have a spark sword but that doesn't do much on the ghost or the bonewalker who's in the tomb with him, and after scouting around the net I can't find any concrete, step-by-step instructions on how to kill this ghost, so I figured I'd pop in and see if anyone here might be able to help.

My policy in tough Morrowind quests always had to be to re-load an earlier save - and come back to the tough quest when I was stronger or had a better weapon But I'm a wimp so you'll probably get better advice than that [I love Morrowind !!!! ]

Running away to come back later is always good stategy. But as soon as I have the money, and a soul gem, I have a sword or glass dagger enchanted with "absorb health". It does the trick on anything and anybody, and helps you stay alive!!! I go to Caldera for the enchantments, always, because I have stolen the soulgems in one of Agira's quest earlier, and I dont want to be called a thief... even if I am one!!! A bit of fire damage or frost added to it on strike, (Shock costs more) $4000 to $6000 and life is a lot easier for a long time!! A character with conjuration as major or minor skill has bound dagger to use at will from the beginning ( my 3rd or 4th playthrough} For the first time, the fights around Seyda Neen were easy. It is the dagger to use when you have no money, no experience. I am over level 25 now and I still use it once in a while

Thanks so much you guys! I think I'm going to combine all of your great advice and run the heck out of there, level up, get some silver weapons and get them enchanted in Caldera. I tend to jump into these fights and assume I'm ready just because it's the next quest in the Mage's Guild quests that I'm doing. But I'm definitely NOT ready (lol) so I think I'll disappear for awhile and come back when I'm stronger. You guys are great, Tracy

Tracy, it's so much fun for an old Morrowing hand like me to watch someone discovering this game for (almost) the first time. I remember my frustration early on in the game, before I knew what I was doing. It didn't help that I started as a mage my first time out. Running away is always the best strategy until you have a weapon that absorbs health, and then you're golden. Or develop your archery skills. My advice would be to join a couple of other guilds and start working through their quests as well, since each guild has some easy quests to start with, and that will help you level up.
I think I'm quite ready for another adventure.

Thanks Hagatha! I'm grateful there are people who are old hands at Morrowind so I can come find you guys and get good advice! lol I have joined the Mages Guild so far and boy is there alot of walking involved to get from place to place! I shouldn't complain but I played Oblivion first and got used to fast-travel so now I'm spoiled! Anyway, I'm looking forward to leveling up and like you mentioned, finding a weapon that absorbs health because some of the enemies are harder than I thought they'd be. Oh, before I go, I just thought of a question! You know how one of the wise women at the Ahemussa camp wants you to find a white guar? Well, I did find him and he led me to a dead healer. Do you happen to know if I'm supposed to kill the guar or loot the body or whatever? I'm not sure what to do because he seems friendly so I'd feel bad killing him, but when I go back to camp to ask the wise woman about things she just tells me I need to find him and that's it. Thanks again Hagatha! Tracy

Since I can't remember where everything is I found this Morrowind travel map I found this information about the white guar Dreams
Speak with Urshamusa Rapli in the Ahemmusa Camp to learn that she has been dreaming of a White Guar which she believes has been sent to help her tribe, and she wants you to find it for her.
[edit] Find the White Guar
She suggests that you start looking somewhere near a fork in the path, like she saw in her dream, in an area with stone fingers (cryptic enough for you?). Head out on the path to the west of the camp and keep following west and south past a T with five stone fingers. The guar should be nearby, though it may have wandered a short distance away.
[edit] Retrieve the Clan's Amulet
Once you approach it, the guar should begin to move west. Follow it and once it stops explore the area to find the corpse of Ashamanu. On the corpse you'll discover the Amulet of Ashamanu (a minor Restore Health and Cure Blight Disease item). Return the amulet to Rapli to receive the Shield of the Undaunted (light armor shield with a minor Restore Fatigue Cast When Used enchantment, the amulet may be more useful if you don't feel bad about keeping it). Hope this helps.

You are welcome. I use a guide for Morrowind, forget from where just so I don't miss anything. Plus I have a notebook filled up to keep track of everything, like quests, so I don't mess up.
Just remember to have those healing potions when you are off trekking in the wild. I was someplace up North and got really sick from some blighted creature. I could hardly drag myself around, I had just enough potions to get well enough to get out. I forget what cave that was but I had to do a quest in in, shudder!!!!!That place was so hard to find.

Thanks for more great ideas. I did get the strategy guide but I also love the idea of having a notebook and jotting things down as I go because I'm very forgetful and then I get frustrated. LOL I will definitely make sure and have alot of potions w/ me too. Sometimes I've had to use a scroll to escape back to a Temple or something, and it's usually been because I ended up not having enough potions, so I appreciate the reminder! Glad you got out of that cave btw---if I find myself stuck in one and start to panic I might pop my head in and yell for help one of these days.

This is the name of the place, Urshilaku Burial Cavern, way up north. Spooky in there, I wasn't even brave enough to go in all the tombs. I knew I had to find an item, big fight, then boogie out. I did get a couple of really cool weapons though. You have to climb to get some things, but worth it. I just save a lot and if at first I don't succeed......................

Oh yeah, best part of the game I think, strutting about with my finery, cool weapons, so conceited I am always taking screenshots of myself. When I was playing I found the cheat somewhere to change my hair color, I made myself a redhead. I gotta find that again, other than that I don't cheat in Morrowind. Oh and then playing with all my stuff in the Mages Guild in Balmora where it is piled up all over the floor. Really should go back and straighten up that room. As soon as I finish Alice I am going back to it, Fable can wait until later. Here is a link to a screenshot with my red hair, I took off most of my fancy armor, just got the assassins stuff on with my pretty skirt. Redhead Hawka

Hawka -- sounds as though you're blasting through the Main Quest pretty fast. What level are you? Usually I like to roam around for weeks doing side quests and other guild quests and just ignore the MQ until I start to get bored. Though there is one item in the Urhsilaku Burial cave that I really like, and which makes going there relatively early worthwhile.
As to the weapon of your dreams, you can just have it made by any enchanter. You have to have the spell effect in your posession, and a nice, unenchanted weapon. And some cash. And a good soul gem with a decent soul in it.
COme to think of it, I have an unfinished game of Morrowing lurking around on one my computers. A mage, I think.
I think I'm quite ready for another adventure.

Hagatha I haven't played in almost two years due to constant computer crashes, lucky I had my saves on a flash drive and moved them to my Vista laptop. But due to time restraints I still haven't started again. Once I start I don't come up for air and I was playing for months and put in lots of roaming time and I can't remember offhand what level I am at. I know I am in Fighters Guild and Mages Guild and have been all over the place. I am going to have to read my log in the game and my notebooks when I get back there. I think I was at some point in the Main Quest that I was putting off for later and just trying to level up.

You guys are evil. EVIL!!!! I never finished Morrowind, and while I thought it had some fairly significant problems, I also thought it had strenghts that few RPGs have ever matched. And I've always wondered if I should try the [blip] thing again. And here you all are putting the bug in my ear! I don't think I've ever felt the sense of danger, mystery and discovery that I felt stumbling around the strange island of Vvardenfell. I really felt I was exploring an alien world. The architecture of the towns were amazing, too. I heard that the game world in Oblivion was larger, but I never believed it. Morrowind's world seemed vast to me. On the other hand, the game seemed to not "care" whether I finished the main quest, or whether I played it at all. The character models were ugly and the NPCs were static and robotic. Both times I made a major push to play the game, I eventually reached a point of torpor and ended up giving up. Plus it was pretty much unplayable without a RAFT of addons. So . . should I try the [blip] thing again, do you think?

" Plus it was pretty much unplayable without a RAFT of addons." What add-ons ?? I played the "Game of the Year" edition just as it came and had no problems whatsoever EDIT : All this talk of Morrowind compelled me to install it again and now I'm addicted all over again !! Some people just have NO will power
