I'm expecting a new PC tomorrow (Windows 7) & have been busily uninstalling most of the download games I have in the hope that I can re-install them on my new system. Hopefully there won't be a problem with BF games but what about The Adventure Shop games? - I'm quite keen to be able to re-download Yoomurjak's Ring & possibly Black Mirror 2 if the disc still doesn't work!

Also I have quite a few games that don't have copy protection e.g. The Blackwell games from Wadget Eye. Can I just copy them to disc, unininstall them from my old syatem & use on my new system legitimately? I don't want to cheat anyone but I don't want to buy the games twice!

My aim is to free up my XP & leave it in a good state so that it's there for 'older games' - but it would be good if I can take my downloaded ones 'with me'!

You don't have to uninstall the Big Fish games from the old computer before installing them on the new one. Big Fish doesn't limit you that way.

I don't know about the Adventure Shop games. I don't know if they keep track of whether you uninstalled something or not, but the number of installs is limited. If you have a problem, contact Adventure Shop.


Sure. As long as you bought them, you can install them on any of your computers.

My new PC arrived yesterday & it's so smooth!

On the subject of transferring games - The Adventure Shop allow 6 downloads so I was able to download again Yoomurjaks Ring. As for Black Mirror 2 - my original disc version, which wouldn't work on my XP, has installed like a dream, as well as some other game discs I originally had problems with including ND Shadow at the Waters Edge & The Experiment. Unfortunately I had a problem with ND Trail of the Twister - one of the files seems to be corrupt so have emailed the problem to HER Interactive. I haven't tried installing any of the Indie games I copied to disc yet!

My installation discs didn't work for either my printer or scanner but I was able to download updated drivers for Win 7 from Canon & HP respectively. I've installed so much stuff, including about 8 full file games, but they just seem to take up a blip of space on the hard drive - it's great!

I've been reading with interest cruise's thread about buying a new laptop & partitioning it to support 2 operating systems - no! I won't be going in that direction! I've cleared my XP of all installed software, documents, music, photos etc, defragmented it & used a registry cleaner. It's still in good working order & there if I want to replay any game that won't work on Win 7.

It did seem extravagant to buy a new system when I already had one that worked but now I've had it for over a day I don't feel guilty anymore about buying it!

It sounds like you are having a great time with your new computer, chrissie! No guilt necessary - it's time for the best of both worlds, a new Windows 7 computer and a nice clean XP computer for games that won't work on Windows 7. Although I think you'll find they are going to be few and far between.

I've had great luck with getting Win 7 drivers for several older peripherals. Glad to hear your printers are working too.

Thanks Draclvr, it's reassuring to know that there aren't that many games that won't work! The only software disc I had which wouldn't work was Adobe Photoshop Elements 3.0 which when I went to try & update discovered that there is now a version 9.0! Where have I been? It's even beyond updates so I've had to buy it new, but apart from that I guess I've been very lucky with my peripherals!

EDIT: I've just tried to install a couple of Indie games I copied to memory stick before uninstalling from my XP - BS 2.5 & The Lost City of Malathedra. They both look as if they are going to play perfectly!

My XP desktop is working great (now) and plays all the games I have on it, it just seems "old" when I compare it to Windows 7 on my grandsons laptop and others that I got a chance to poke around on.

I have a Vista laptop that is upgradeable to Windows 7 but so far it is fine as is. One of the things I just love is how pictures are downloaded. I have so many different digital camera between mine and others in the house. I am sure 7 is the same as Vista in this aspect, it does not redownload pictures you have already done. I don't know how this works, but it does. With XP I ended up with so many duplicated pictures. It also puts them oh so neatly into folders with the date, unless you specify another name. I just love it!

Hi hawkavonpuka, I think if your present PC is doing everything you want it to then there is no need to change it!

Unfortunately my XP wasn't - it was fully upgradeable but when I looked into the cost it just made more sense to buy a new one with more power, more memory, a better graphics card & a more up-to-date operating system. I have at least six newer AGs that just wouldn't work + a few Casual Games that didn't play too well either! So for me it was a good decision! Also I can see that eventually XP won't be able to support a lot of games in the not too distant future!

I haven't had a chance yet to check out how downloading pictures works but I would guess with any OS if you have duplicates of pictures with different titles & formats you would still end up with copies of the same picture?

chrissie what I meant was that if you put in the same little disc in that you have put in previously it will only download the new pictures on the disc. I don't know how it "knows" but it does. With my XP it downloads all the same pictures unless you check off the ones you want or don't want. I ended up with the 700+ pictures on my daughters camera card downloaded twice.

I think you are going to love your new computer, wish I had the space for two desktops, but I don't.

I don't have enough space for two desktops either & I've only got one monitor. The XP I'll tuck away in a cupboard & bring it out in
emergencies i.e. if something goes wrong with my Win7 or I desperately want to play something that Win7 doesn't agree with!
