been looking at the hp all in one desktops for 5-650$. the omni looks like it would have enough memory for adventure games. the only other things i'd want to do is watch an occasional dvd , and listen to cd's .i'm basically wanting to replace my old dell.

currently i don't run any other sort of programs on my old dell ,and i would not be downloading from the hp, either. standard OS w/the hp's seem to be windows 7.

does anyone know how reliable hp is in terms of customer support , and the equipment standing up in general ?

thanks for any thoughts.

The graphics card will be the thing you want to look at for adventure games. The low end Omni seems to only come with an integrated ATI Radeon 4250 and the $650 ones are either an integrated Graphics Media Accelerator X4500 or a 512MB NVIDIA GeForce G210.

The low end Omni's also only had 2 GB of RAM. I wouldn't want to do any gaming with only that much RAM - especially if it had to be shared with the video card.

None of these options look promising for adventure gamine. Jenny and Inland can tell you more.

I have an HP desktop I like it- has served me well. But in regards to customer service.. they used to connect me to someone I could hardly understand..... my customer support is right here.:) edit after reading Drac's post smile
I upgraded my video card from the one that came with it.

draclvr - you're right - i was thinking vista - a duh moment on that.

also , you do have the option to add a bit more ram / change the video card for a small charge.

i just wondered how "sturdy" they were compared to the dell products , if that makes any sense ?

thanks for the prompt answers !

winfrey - i have a communication problem anyway - my hearing has gone off with my mind ,i swear ! lol

The only one I saw that you could upgrade the video card to something that would run adventure games was the one for $800. The best you could get with the $650 one was the Nvidia Geforce 210 - not good enough.

As far as sturdy, when I was working all our clerical staff had these all-in-ones. They seemed OK, but I've never used one.

One reason I wouldn't buy one is that it would limit your options if you ever needed to replace a part or upgrade. The power supplies they are limited to are pretty tiny too. They are geared for office use, not gaming, even adventure gaming.

I've always had good luck with their technical support; it actually rates fairly high in the industry. Unfortunately their hardware failure rate is one of the highest.

I've had pretty good luck with them, but I have seen several issues raised by others.

About 5 years ago I purchased a DV8000 series laptop, and it's on its way out. Right around the same time I also picked up a Sony, it's still going strong.

Just like Drac, I've always avoided the AIO's because of their upgrade options.

Make sure that you can add external speakers. My SIL has a Dell and the sound is electronically generated and sounds terrible. One thing their local techie said is that if anything goes wrong, they are much harder to fix.

Hi niteowl, I had the same dilemna a few weeks ago - I was going to opt for a Dell again but thought about a HP as someone close to me works for them here in the UK. I was advised that even with the discount they could get me that I would be paying over the odds for what I would actually get in comparison to what I could get elsewhere!
