Early yesterday afternoon started getting pinged. Finally was able to write down the IP and discovered it was someone in China trying to access my computer. Learned the IP could be banned but no info on how to do that. After talking to my server who directed me to call Microsoft which turned out to be all "talking robots" I decided to check privacy in my options.
Was able to type in the IP to have it blocked and haven't had any problems since.
I wouldn't have even been aware but thanks to Malwarbytes it kept blocking even though I would be pinged at least once every 10-15 minutes.
Just wanted to post this in case it may help someone else.
Thank you

What browser are you using that gives you that option?

Sounds like you need a router or modem with a hardware firewall. Make sure you pass the Shields Up test.

Didn't really understand it other than to check back to see if the ip has changed(tomorrow), which I guess is better to change than not.
When I clicked proceed, informed, in red, that my info could now be seen by anybody and everybody.???

Thought I had everything under control, but now not so sure.

If you're talking about a message like this:

http://img715.imageshack.us/img715/3248/picture1ham.png

That's OK. He's just giving you a warning that if anyone is sniffing your internet connection that they can monitor what you're seeing.

When you get to this page
http://www.grc.com/x/ne.dll?rh1dkyd2

Click where it says "Common Ports" and let it finish running.

Hopefully you'll end up seeing something like this

(I crossed out my IP number, but you'll see yours in that teal-colored space)

If you pass the "Common Ports" test you can try the "All Service Ports" test, which takes longer but is more thorough.

The Shields Up website probes your ports and lets you know if you have any open ports or if your ports are closed but detectable from the Internet.

Did you click on some of the headers under the blue part like File Sharing and Common Ports?

Thanks, checked the ports and "they" were unable to get through. In parenthesis, " that's very cool".

'breathing sigh of relief'
