I installed Syberia 2 from the cd, which I used years ago to play the game. AVG Free Edition says it's a worm - Generic2.OWC. Has anyone else had this problem? I tried telling it to ignore it but it won't let me open it at all.

Any ideas? I may have to just download a current version. Sigh

AVG Free has had similar problems before.
It's a false alarm. There's nothing wrong with the game.

You might try using a different antivirus.
Several GB members have switched from AVG free to Avast or Avira, which also have free versions.

Thanks Jenny. I'll think about it. It's been so long since I've done anything with antivirus downloads. How would I do it? Download one of them and then uninstall AVG?

I'm assuming then that even if I download Syberia 2 from somewhere I'd still have the same problem. Darn.

You can download one of them, but don't install it until you completely uninstall AVG and are sure it's gone.


If it's the copy "protection" that AVG is objecting to, then a DRM free version would help.

Ok, let me get this right. Download the antivirus, uninstall AVG, then install antivirus.

You'd think I'd never done stuff like this, but I retired 3 years ago and so haven't been with folks that are computer literate since then. I've kinda gotten scared, lol.

Why don't you just shut off AVG while playing the game?

I uninstalled AVG and installed Avast, and it's working! Thanks so much Jenny. It took at least 3 trys to get the AVG components off my computer.

Hopefully it will work ok with my online games without me having to tweak it!

Yes it's stubborn. They have to make antivirus that way so viruses don't disable them.

Wow. Just now Avast gave me a warning about Syberia 2, but gave me the option to open it normally if I trust it, so I did. What's going on with these antiviruses these days? I could see if I had downloaded it, but this is an old cd.

Apparently there's something on the Syberia 2 CD with code that resembles a piece of malware. But at least Avast gives you the choice to use the CD if you trust it.

I'm having the same problem playing Broken Sword Angel of Death. I've been playing for the last 3 days with no problems, but AVG just did a scan a couple of hours ago, told me to restart the computer, and now finds a "virus" in the game.
Question: how do you turn off AVG?

Edit: Seems to be fixed. I went into Tools, Advanced Settings and found Resident Shield and added the offending file to the Ignore list. The game has now started properly. AVG can be annoying with these glitches.
