Had a new hard drive and graphics card installed and just found out my cd/dvd drive is missing.
Spoke with the tech at the repair shop and he suggested trying cdgone which there are numerous choices. He also tried one per TeamViever 6 program but was also unsuccessful. He asked me to bring my pc in but it will be a couple weeks before I'll be able to.
Note: its a combined cd/dvd drive; running Win XP.

Any ideas?

Thank you.

He may have loosened the cable or disconnected the power dongle when he replaced the hard drive - it's fairly simple to open the case and check the cables.

Thanks; I was thinking about doing that but actually not sure what "cables" to look for/at.

You can't miss them for the most part - they connect to the CD-ROM.

Before you do that though - do you see any devices flagged in Device Manager?

You can try uninstalling the device from device manager, but it sounds more like it may not be connected properly.

Locate and highlight the device (in device manager), right click it and choose uninstall. The next time you start Windows it will detect the it, if it's correctly cabled.

If you have IDE drives, I'd check the jumpers.
Most computers use SATA now though.
