I find that Grey Matter which I've just started is running kind of slow - Sam moves like she's in slow motion so i'd like to speed this up or I will be falling asleep waiting for her to walk across a room! Is this a graphics issue possibly or something else? Any tweaks I could try? I'm running the game on a recent Alienware laptop so I would have thought it had the spec required.

I've tried changing things in the games's config menu but I can't get anywhere, Sam still moves veeeeeery slooooowly - it's ridiculous since I have a fast gaming laptop which hasn't had a problem running other modern games. I can't understand what needs to change to run this annoying game properly, I'm getting fed up with Grey Matter before I've left the upstairs area!! I hope someone can suggest something before I abandon the game altogether in a very bad mood ...

Hi Jenny
There are only a few things that can be changed in the config file, but I've set shadows to low, mirrors to none(!) and rendering to low. this has helped but I still feel that the game isn't running as well as it could and I have to say I am singularly unimpressed right now. I haven't encountered this kind of poor performance aggravation for ages especially with the laptop I'm using which should be able to handle a 2d animated game like this very easily! It's just annoying that these kind of things are still allowed to happen and aren't caught by testers or technical people. The quality of animation of Sam is also rather poor, she moves very strangely, walks half through things, stands hovering above the floor at times etc, poor stuff, for which there is little excuse nowadays, especially for a game with such a hype surrounding it. I hope the game improves rapidly! Thanks, Lynda

Just for comparison, which video cards do you two have? I'd be interested to know if the game plays better with an Nvidia card than with a Radeon, and whether driver version makes a difference in the responsiveness of the game. In her ***review***, Becky says Sam and David move smoothly and she has a Geforce GT 220 card.

Hi all I've made better progress running the game on my laptop's high performance mode, the high end graphics card it uses is the Nvidia GT335M by the way. I've been able to turn some of the graphics settings back up but in all honesty there are aspects of this game early on that are falling short of my (over-hyped?) expectations. At least I can get Sam to move around faster now but I find her movements in general unrealistic and harking back to the old days of character sliding along the floor and maneoevring in a very unnatural looking way to face objects, like something spinning on a base to turn around rather than the way that a person would move. It's just first impressions but after the aggro I've had it's going to need to improve a lot for me to think the game was worth buying!
I have also found the in game cursor is sometimes in the wrong position, it's kind of shifted from where it should be all the time, so it makes it very difficult to point at something on the screen, or select the things you want from the menus, another annoying glitch that seems a bit random at the moment.
Thanks for the help and suggestions and Gatsby Girl if you can run the game in a high performance 'mode' if you have one that's the only thing I've found runs it - so far - relatively normally, I do hope you sort something out!

When I had "slow motion" movement in Syberia it was my hyperthreading computer that caused it. I was able to play fine in compatibility mode. Also by turning off one part of the Hyper threading in Task Manager I eliminated the problem in other games.
