I just got a new computer and have been installing all of my games on it. I have attempted to install Murder on the Orient Express three times and keep getting this message -



I keep wanting to tell it it's not "OK" when it forces me to exit. My computer is a Windows 7 64 bit, which is the same type of computer I was using before. The game installed on the old computer with no problem. I've tried installing as administrator with no luck. Does anyone have any suggestions? I would really like to be able to get back to this game.

Have you tried using a .cab file reader to see if it's corrupt?

Thanks for the advice, mj2c. I will see if I can try that. Where is the best place to download a .cab file reader?

EDIT: The Gamersgate version is DRM free. Should I risk purchasing it, or do people here recommend I try to work with the version I have first? I wouldn't want to risk spending money on a new one and running into the same problem.

Can you look on your E drive and see that it is there? Try copying it to the hard drive...your desktop and loading it from there

Hey, Winfrey, sorry I missed your post. Do you mean just copy and paste the files rather than install them? I suppose I could try that. I'll let you know if it works.

after copying it to your hard drive when you get to that part. and it says try again change the direction to C:desktop/Murder on the Orient Express/data3.cab

or Or if you can, copy the contents of all the CDs into a folder on your hard drive and try installing from there.

EDIT: Hm, it can't copy everything from the second disk. It says it can't read the data3 Cabinet File. Does this mean it's corrupt?

If so, would it be possible to copy my game files from my old computer and transfer them to the new one?

No, cause some are in your register.... do you have two disc drives??? If so have you tried both
Can you click on the E:drive ... can you see data3.cab there?

No, I only have one disk drive. The game is also installed on my other computer, but it is a hassle to set it up since I only have one monitor, keyboard, etc.

Yes, I can see data3 there, although it does not have a .cab at the end. I'm not sure if this has anything to do with my problem? My computer does not allow me to copy data3 to my hard drive. It says it can't read the file. Everything else carries over without a problem.

EDIT: No, but you know what? It looks a little dirty! Can't believe I didn't think to check that. Then again, I never take it out of its case, so I wouldn't expect it. Let me clean it and see if that helps.

EDIT 2: I think that may have done it! The files are copying over now! Thanks, Winfrey! I am kicking myself for not seeing this sooner , but glad that it looks as though it may work now. I will let you know if I have any more problems.
