When Monkey Island 1 Special Edition came out I bought it from STEAM, but never could figure out how to get it on a disc so I could remove it from the harddrive (getting very full). I ended up buying it again from Telltale so I could store it on a disc. I then uninstalled steam and the game, as I expected, went with it. I want to get Monkey Island 2 Special Edition now, but it is still only available on STEAM. I would love to back it up on a disc so I can remove it from the harddrive. I've searched STEAM's website and can find no reference to this subject. Is there a way?

Thank you,

Mr. Bill

Yes, what Jenny linked you to... Remember that you must be in your "Library" to do the backup. Go to the Steam client on your computer and enter your account from there. Go to your Library and right click the game or games you want to back up. From there you can select the drive you want them to go to.

Thank you Jenny100 and Draclvr.

I am using XP, does this make any difference? You speak of Library which makes me think of my wife's Windows 7 which also drives me nuts with all the library stuff instead of the previous Windows Explorer way. I know they are basically the same and yet not (to me anyway). smile

Also since I completely uninstalled STEAM from this computer how do I redo it. I still have an account. Do I just buy the Monkey Island 2 Special Edition and STEAM will know to download their stuff as well? I just don't like downloading this way. I love hard copies. smile

Thank you again

Mr. Bill

You need to have Steam installed to see your Library. When you open Steam, there should be a Library tab.

Hey Dunn,

So far so good. I used the backup directions after getting something else straightened out on Steam and they worked ok. You aren't given an option to go directly to the DVD so I backed them up in Steam's default setting which is a Backups folder under Steam. The option for any Drive other then C did not seem to be available. I then, using Roxio, draged the Backups folder to my DVD-Rom Drive which now has the two Monkey Island Special Edition Games on the DVD. I then searched for the saved games which were under Documents and Settings, user's name (mine being Bill), then Application Data, then LucasArts, then name of game and finally the saves.

C:\Documents and Settings\Bill\Application Data\LucasArts\The Secret of Monkey Island Special Edition\savegame.001

I also placed the LucasArts Folder from the Application Data folder and its contents on the DVD along with a notepad text message that gave the pathway to the saved games on XP.

I haven't tested this all out yet because I am presently playing Monkey Island 2 Special Edition. If successful I will be able to uninstall Steam which will also take everything else out except those files under Documents and Settings The saves primarily. Then re-install Steam and restore the games back into Steam from the DVD.

Hope this helps.

Take care,

Bill
