About The New Adventures of Sherlock Holmes
Quote:
Sherlock Holmes causes a stir! For over ten years, millions of players have donned the hat and magnifying glass of the world’s greatest detective, in a dozen games for PC and handheld systems. This year, Sherlock Holmes makes a triumphant return in his very first adventure specially designed for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 game consoles! All the mystery and intrigue will also be available on PC.

1898, London. All the evidence of police investigation points at Sherlock Holmes as the main suspect in a case involving theft, fraud and double-crossings. Unable to prove his own innocence, Holmes is rapidly losing London’s trust as doubt spreads through the city like wildfire. Even Doctor Watson's faith in his friend begins to waver, as the famous detective flees Scotland Yard and raises further suspicion; prowling around at night, destruction of evidence... would Holmes go so far as to commit murder?

A mainstay genre of console games, The New Adventures of Sherlock Holmes is playable with a gamepad in a third person view, with controls thought and specially developed with consoles in mind. The new game engine was also specially built to display complex scenes and high-resolution textures. The game features lush, captivating environments and truly raises the bar for console adventure games.

The complex and decidedly-mature storyline surrounds a particularly tricky investigation, in which each and every puzzle will challenge both insight and wits! As Sherlock Holmes, you will use the detective’s full repertoire: handle and inspect clues, reenact crimes and use the game’s new deduction system to draw your own conclusions. Choose your questioning approach to catch characters off guard and gather valuable information. Players are facing an open investigation, and must decide which leads to follow and which to ignore.

You are Sherlock Holmes, and this is your investigation. Live a thrilling adventure and foil an incredible conspiracy on Xbox 360, PS3 and PC fall 2011!

Carla...thanks as always for the job you do informing us on these games.

I personally am apprehensive about this game as they took several steps backward on the last Sherlock game Jack the Ripper after all the gains they had made with Awakened and Nemesis.

Love the little 'specially designed for..also playable on PC' ....not - so I too am apprehensive!

I was so looking forward to this, and now, not so much frown

Thanks, Carla for the heads up.... I look forward to playing this... and am happy that at least they did not turn this into a casual game (no offense to anyone)
Their comment: "The New Adventures of Sherlock Holmes is playable with a gamepad in a third person view, with controls thought and specially developed with consoles in mind"
Now, I like gamepads, but I hope they have not made this hard for players that don't like gamepads or have trouble using them.

Hello Boomers :),

I read some rising critics here as if we forgot about PC players, but the camera system of the Testament of Sherlock Holmes includes 3 modes :
- 1st person perspective (fully playable with mouse and/or PAD)
- 3rd person perspective (like in 80 days or hitman)(fully playable with mouse and/or PAD)
- point and click on PC (see SHTA remastered, SHvsAL remastered or SHvsJtR)(playable with mouse)

So, we try to inform console players that the game is made for them in term of controls, but as you can see we know where we come from and we of course have controls for PC. I'm not sure you have a lot of adventure games around that propose you to play freely with pad or mouse with 3 different camera modes.

I do not see why adventure games should belong to PC more than consoles as soon as they are well made, and we would be interested to know what steps backward we took with Jack the Ripper, positive criticism is always interesting for us!

thanks and good night!

Thanks Carla for the info.

I am afraid that I have never liked the mouse cursor within these Frogware games as the movement of the cursor is much too slow and seems to drag. My normal cursor is always on the fastest setting.

Perhaps 'thehood' may be able to introduce a 'cursor options' wherein I can make the cursor move as swiftly as possible?

Best wishes for the launch of this game! thumbsup wave

GreyFuss,

Why do you think that they took backward steps with Jack The Ripper? I have liked all of the games but I think they are difficult. I purchased Nemesis/Lupin recently and I am finding it to be much harder than some of the others and I haven't even gone very far in it. I have stopped playing it for awhile. Maybe it will be easier when I go back to it?

Also, what is a gamepad for PC games? Is that like a joystick?

Thanks.

I LOVE all Sherlock Holmes games. From "Mummy" to "Ripper" I've enjoyed them all. I've even played casual game "Hound of the Baskervilles" & had fun with it. Yes they are a bit difficult & tricky & you really need to pay attention during gameplay but to me that's what makes or breaks a game. Without good puzzles, heck, I'll go watch the movie.

No step back in my book

Thank you for the info Carla on the new & very anticipated Sherlock Holmes game. Also thank you thehood for dropping in and giving us more details! I thought Jack the Ripper was an excellent game & can't see how it could be considered to have gone backwards? The trouble is that I've started to realise that a lot of negative opinions come from gamers who usually play a lot of other genre games so I would take no notice! lol

I can answer this for you.. here is a link and a picture of the gamepad that I have... I do like it... games like Indigo Prophecy would have been very hard for me to do without it.
