OK, got my new Win7 laptop and it's running really well. I do have a couple of questions though.

1. How come when I click on watch video on bigfish, it freezes and takes forever to stream? I never had that problem on my XP machine, it runs seamlessly.

2. Where do I find the "run" command so I can do a dxdiag. It's usually in the start menu but not on Win7.

3. How do I find out if I'm using a 32-bit or 64-bit system?

That should do it for now. Although I'm sure I'll have other questions..LOL confused

Not sure about why your video is hesitating on Windows 7 and wasn't on XP.

Click Start and type "run" in the dialogue box and click enter. You can customize the Startup menu as you want it including adding the Run command. This link shows you how to customize Startup. Customize Startup Menu

The documentation with your computer should tell you whether it is 32-bit or 64-bit, but if it doesn't, click Start, type system and then click on system in the list.

I'd highly recommend watching some of the videos in the Help and Support to learn about some of the really neat features of Windows 7 that you might miss otherwise!

Excellent, thanks Draclvr. I'm not sure why it balks at running the videos either. Everything is so much faster on this laptop than the other that it is mystifying. I went back to the XP laptop and ran the same video with no problems....Weird!

You don't have to type run.
Just type dxdiag directly in the Start Search and it will find it for you.

You probably have 64-bit. That's what they seem to be selling these days.
Draclvr's instructions for finding out which your laptop has are the same as ***Microsoft's***:
Quote:
1. Open System by clicking the Start button Picture of the Start button, clicking Control Panel, clicking System and Maintenance, and then clicking System.
2. Under System, you can view the system type.

Big Fish videos will balk when they are too busy, no matter what the computer and no matter what bandwidth you have on your end. So don't be too surprised if your new computer plays them just fine a few minutes later. I've also had some Big Fish videos play fine while others cough and choke. So I think the problem may also be with individual videos being busy.

But you didn't run it at the exact same time. I'm still not convinced that your Windows 7 is having a problem. Not unless it ALWAYS has troubles running Big Fish videos.

Thanks Jenny - as usual I was in a hurry and didn't read past "run!" Yes, what Jenny said about DXDIAG - just type in in the search box after you click on Start.

I've tried the videos of about 10 different games and it's always the same, the streaming lags. Also the pictures take about 15 seconds to load. I did notice that they come up in an internet explorer pop up box which looks different from the one on the xp laptop.

I just went and clicked on the video for Emma and the Inventor at 4:41. It's 4:50 now and the video isn't even half over, maybe it's at about 1/3. Should I contact them and see if they have an idea?

I've gone on other video sites like youtube and viral and there wasn't any lag.

Have you tried it in another browser such as Firefox or Chrome?

EDIT: It's Big Fish like Jenny said. I went there in my IE 9 browser and waited almost a minute for the video and finally quit. Then I tried Firefox - it came up in about 20 seconds, but then started and stopped while streaming. It was no better in Chrome. I suggest trying later... To say the site is pokey right now is an understatement!

Good to know, Draclvr! I've never had that happen before so automatically assumed it was the new laptops fault. Can't understand why it was so fast on the old one...Might have just caught it at the right time I guess.

I'll bet so because I'm logged in on my XP computer right now and the same thing happened on this one too.

The next time you see the lag, open the Network Sharing Center (right click the network icon in your taskbar to select it).

Under Intrernet Connections click the link for your connection and see what speed you negotiated. An N-Band adapter should connect at 130 to 300 Mbps, but in order to achieve that speed your router has to be set up with WPA2-AES Encryption and also use a wide band radio channel - otherwise you'll default to 56 Mbps.
