I have read that the CMOS battery is just a glorified watch battery and it is not needed any longer to remember all your settings. These are kept elsewhere on something similar to a flash drive. Maybe your problems lie in the BIOS settings. No matter what the technology, it's still commonly referred to as CMOS - If your PC uses a chip that requires a battery, just replace it. Otherwise you'll continue to see the error each time you start the PC.

I've had to change a few of them - very easy. Like Inland says, if your motherboard has a chip that needs the battery (and most do), you will need to replace them after awhile. How to Change the CMOS Battery

Ah, I don't blame you! Although if you don't want the hassle of returning etc., you could go into the BIOS and reset the CMOS setting.

All motherboard BIOS are different, but generally you have to locate the CMOS settings section. Don't know if this will help or not... Reset CMOS in the BIOS

Hi Draclvr, I've gone into the Bios settings (which I know nothing about) but there doesn't seem to be anything like a reset button? There's usually an Function Key that says: Load BIOS Defaults -

I've been using Security Essentials for about 9 months now and the longer I have it, the better I like it. I regularly run the free Malwarebytes and SuperAntiSpyware and have no issues at all.

I use nothing else but Security Essentials for anti-virus. If I remember correctly, Inland also uses it. Give it a try for a couple of weeks and see what you think.
