trying to play Morrowind on monitor (1920x1080)resolution and Win 7 Everybody is very short and fat. Is there any easy way to change the resolution actually at 1024x768 which is what Morrowind options offer.Oviously I am not used to see my game like this!!! Thank you I have a new monitor, as you can guess!

Right click on desktop, choose Personalise, go down to Display settings and here you have the option to change your resolution. Applies to Vista and Win 7. wave

1024x768 is 4:3 aspect ratio
1920x1080 is 16:9 aspect ratio

So a 1024x768 image would be stretched horizontally to fit a 1920x1080 screen, unless you add black bars to the sides of the image or use some other scaling strategy.

Check ***this solution*** to play Morrowind on a widescreen monitor without being horizontally stretched.

Quote:
Widescreen is enabled via registry settings, but you can simplify this through the use of a 3rd party app - The FPS Optimizer for Morrowind.

Download the app here - http://planetelderscrolls.gamespy.com/View.php?view=Utilities.Detail&id=22 - and follow these steps:

1. Run the Morrowind FPS optimizer.
2. Click on the 'status' tab (if not already on it)
3. Click the 'change Morrowind registry settings here...' button at the bottom.
4. Change the value '1024' to '1280' and the value '768' to '800'.
5. Save.
6. Run 'Morrowind'.

That will run Morrowind in 1280x800, which is a widescreen resolution. You could also use 1280x768 if Morrowind allows it, which might be better for modern widescreen monitors which are wider than the older ones.

Had to download Winzip to open this program and it works but no save button unless OK is save? Seems I have to open this file and reapply it everytime I start Morrowind? or am I imagining that my character is still a bit too wide?

I'm not sure how it works, but if you have to reapply it every time you start the game in order not to have a wide character, it sounds like it's not saving permanently.

It might save permanently if you ran it as an administrator. If it's making changes in the registry, it probably needs administrator privileges to make a permanent change. Try right-clicking it and choosing Run As Administrator.

Thank you Jenny100. Even if I do not find a way to save the change permamently, it is so much better that I can live with it.

I guess it's the best they could do.
Certainly better than nothing.

I guess I am going to have to try this fix too. I reinstalled Morrowind on my computer with the 24" monitor and sure enough my character is short and squat. How horrible since she used to be tall and willowly. Guess that is what I get for sitting on my computer chair for so long. Hopefully I can find a permanent change since I tend to pop in and out of games a lot.

On my 22" ViewSonic monitor, the game plays in 1024 x 768 with no compression of the figures. The monitor automatically scales with black bars on the side for the 4:3 aspect ratio and then goes back to the native resolution of 1680 x 1050 and the 16:9 aspect ratio when I exit the game.

Maybe check your monitor options to see if this is available like it is on mine?

I used the Optimizer program above but had to change mine to 1920 x 1080 which is what my settings for the monitor are. The suggested one did not change it and something was making a loud humming sound within my case. Anyway she is once again tall and it stuck, I don't have to redo when reloading the game.
