Ok Boomers...

Would you care to share your reason "Why Adventure Games" Makes you Happy?

Just what is all the Rave about a new game when it comes out?

Why does it make you excited to get a new AG..

Just explain in your own words "What These Games" Mean to you...

To me they mean tranquility....

Thanks for sharing hearts

Some games the plot and graphics are so good that it is like watching a great movie but what makes me the happiest is figuring out a tough puzzle. My favorites are the puzzle games with humor like Monkey Island, Simon the Sorcerer, and the Discworld games.

It's nice to be important but it is much more important to be nice.

To me it's a dream like entry into a world of mystery, fantasy and overall enjoyment. Once I get involved with a good game I become a part of that world.

I like my Adventure games to be "story" strong, with a simple interface and puzzles that don't leave me a withered wreck !! lol
Getting hold of one of those absolutely makes my day yay

I agree with lexxy - it can be a very powerful way to immerse oneself in another world.

I also like it for the puzzles. I'm a guy who likes riddles, and the combination works for me smile

There's definitely definitely definitely no logic to human behaviour.

I'm with Mad. I love a strong story with good puzzles that don't drive me insane! A good story can keep me happy for days. It's like reading a good book.

It gives me the chance to travel to strange worlds and fantastic places, as well as a challenge to my brain. But not too challenging, the old brain isn't that great anymore, if it ever was.

I'm not a strong story lover, I want to explore solo and discover it for myself.

Like Mad and JeanK, I play mostly to immerse myself in the story, and I would add different places/worlds as others have mentioned. Ideally good puzzles would be in the mix, but being more of a story gamer, I would favor a really strong story game with not so strong puzzles over the latter option. Dreamfall, in spite of the unnecessary combat, is very high on my list, for example. thumbsup

I like exploring exotic environments that I'd never get to see in real life.
They can be either real places or fictitious ones.

And I'm with Mad,JeanK and Venus!
Strong story, good, logical puzzles (not too difficult, they must only complete the story) and I'm ready to be transported in the game world very happily.

Oh, where do I start. I get to outwit the evil genius(s): best foot chase - Sherlock, The Awakened. I get to snoop to my hearts' delight: best car driving - ND, Trail of the Twister (officer, I swear they drove straight at me). Most fun fatal error: again, ND, good news/bad news (love that 2nd chance). Kill vampires: Dracula. Get to play God: Black and White (the original), the best game ever. Delve into the spirit world: difficult to name just one so many but my favorite opening so far Dark Fall, train tunnel. Character interaction: Ghost Pirates, Blubelly (you do it) and Limbo of the Lost (tapping on the screen). Travel to other worlds or other places so many. Solving puzzles: Arrrrgh, I know I saw it around here somewhere - then jumping up and yelling YES I did it. Old favorites replaying and finding the newest game to do it all again.
Adventure games just have it all.

Very good question

I kind of grew up with them - as a computer pro, I got hooked with the way games were put together; solving puzzles, moving a character all around the screens, ala Leisure Suit Larry, picking up and using inventory, and even getting a laugh or two.

From there it just progressed - a place to go on Adventure and as the games got deeper and more robust in every way, I became a part of them so to speak.

It's like reading books by various authors. The stories are different, the characters, game play, outcomes are intriguing. You get to use your brain and mind to immerse into the story and the game de jour.

Especially during the winter months - I like to settle into a good game with a nice drink, pad and pencil, and just get "lost".

It's not the years honey, it's the mileage!

Same here, Jenny100. It's escapism at it's very best. I've visited many places of fantasy, as well as Stonhenge (Omega Stone), Giza (Riddles of the Spinx), Istanbul (Byzantine the Betrayal) and the lost city of Qin.

A good Adventure game = a good brain aerobics

It's like learning a different language each time you play a new game. Keeps your brain young and on its toes!

Like reading a good book, I like to be transported to exotic locations with a good plot. But what sets the game above the book is the interaction I get with the characters and puzzles-these tend to make the game more immersive and more satisfying for me. There's nothing like working on a puzzle for an hour or so and finally getting it- I feel a real sense of achievement. I'm like the others that don't like puzzles being too hard, though. I tend to play games in the evening after work when I'm a little 'brain dead', but still find them relaxing. smile

First experience with gameing was Myst...and have looked forward to the thrill of beginning a new game with the anticipation of adventure-mystery-puzzling-and much exploration..and all the better if is a 'spooky' game! No jumping/timed stuff. Sadly (to me) there is now a great shortage of them so where I used to have a shelf full by the end of a year-it seems I now have only a handfull to look forward to buying and playing. Some look great in an ad...but if the writing isn't good and good sound effects-faily decent graphics aren't good then all the 'special' effects thrown in aren't going to make it a good game. I have an older pc and have games that look just as good as some of the new ones-with better story and play-and don't need a computer that NASA might have. I have yet in the past year to get a game and go-''OH Wow! This is really something!'', like I did with Riven which is how old?!-or Darkfall(which is a somewhat newer game) or the first Syberia(grabbed me right at the opening!). There've been a few that were pretty good with atmosphere and story but (Scratches/Barrow Hill/Lost Crown/Last Half of Darkness) but they are getting pretty scarce. I used to So look forward to getting my notebook, pens, thermos, snack-all lined up and ready to lose myself for several hours. I really miss it. Thank goodness for the independent developers who have been able to still try and put out a good game. If they have to delay so I don't get a 'have to patch' mess that is fine with me.

Too right. I would rather wait further than have a game that freezes etc. or have to wait and install patches.

For me a good adventure game has a very strong story and it has interesting, clever, but not obscure, frustrating or timed puzzles. Not repetatively searching for hidden objects. That is not a puzzle as far as I am concerned and they bore me.

The voiceovers need to be clear and interesting and if the game has humour to reflect that and probably last is the graphics. Length of game comes in there too. I am not too keen on episode type games, and even less keen on supposed full length games that are about 2 hours long as I think they are a real cheat and the story is going to suffer with a game that short as you barely start it and then it is over.

Lost Horizons was probably the best game I have played in a while and I have just finished A New Beginning and while it was very good it lacked the something that Lost Horizon had which held me spellbound within the game. I also liked the fact that lost horizon was a very long game. Really good value and fantastic story immersion. Machinarium comes a close second for the best recent games I have played due to its immersive charm, humour and fantastic puzzles.

I play to escape. It's my time for me. After all the housework, working, house management, kids and responsibilities...I get to relax and get lost in a good game. I love the challenge and the story line and figuring out the puzzles. It keeps my brain active. I love Adventure Games and I play them all. I also fit into all the categories of BAAGS. lol

When I hold that new or used game box in my hand, I feel as if I will explode with happiness. The smell and the feel of the box brings joy. Problems of the day seem to vanish. I am no longer myself, but a new person, on a new adventure with a friend. Adventure games are not just games to me, but friends I know and have shared experiences with, good and bad. I have helped them with their problems and they in turn have helped me enjoy my self traveling with them in the new adventure. I have been many places with these friends and have seen many wonderful sites. The adventure's end is not always one of joy, but that comes with life. I have learned a great deal from my adventure friends. Some of the friends and their stories I have enjoyed more than others. But I do not regret a moment I have spent with them. I am looking forward to more adventures with my old friends and hope to make many new friends in the years to come.

I started out, Riddle of the Sphinx, after the second trip to Egypt, to see if they had gotten something visual, and story driven. (Talked into it by son-in-law) he thought I would be interested. I was and have been into exploring, and traveling, vis games, since. Now that I can't travel anymore, bring on the games.
