No it's malware.
Some websites even describe it as "extremely dangerous."
No legitimate security program would keep you from browsing the Internet.

You can read more about it by doing a Google search for
XP security 2012

Bleeping Computer describes it ***here***.
If you scroll down the page, they have a removal procedure.

The link Jenny100 posted is pretty good - it does have a removal procedure to follow.

You can also give this a try - it has worked for me in the past on several infected PCs.

You need a USB/thumb drive. Download the PORTABLE version of SuperAntiSpyware ( one word - Google it ). Its free. ( if you have to - use another PC to get it. Once on the USB drive, run the installation file from the USB drive on your PC. Follow the screens - and do a full scan.

The reason you use the PORTABLE version is that this particular infection won't let you download anything much less install in on the PC - but it does not look at the USB drive so the install goes undetected by the spyware.

Give it a shot - it has never failed me. In some cases, you will need to run multiple programs to get rid of the problem - but you need to be able access the Internet to get them.

I hope it works out for you.

It's not the years honey, it's the mileage!

My wife got hit by that two months ago. Here is what worked since you can't install or run anything.

Click on Start / Setting / Control panel
Then scroll down to Security Center Double click on that opening a box

At the BOTTOM of the box double click on WINDOWS FIREWALL ( Not the single Firewall you see near the top ) That refers to an added firewall like zone alarm. Leave that alone

Once you open Windows Firewall check the OFF box to shut it off. Don't turn it back on when you are finished with removal if you have a separate firewall such as zonealarm. You don't need it.

Download the free Malwarebytes onto another computer. Burn it to a disc or thumb drive

Boot up infected pc in safe mode. In XP hold down or tap F8 key during boot up. Install malwarebytes. Then do a full scan with malwarebytes. The program will quarantee and ask if you want it removed. Of course you do.

Reboot and the bad guy is gone.

This process took little time as in safemode it took a couple minutes to install. The full scan took thirty minutes or so.

Malwarebytes shows during the scan "files infected" Don't worry if you see nothing listed there during the scan. During the scan I ran it had zero infected files right up to when the scan was finished. At completion it showed several not revealing them until completed. Follow screen instructions to remove.

It took little time and was really easy.

all great suggestions , but i didn't have another computer ,or a thumb drive ,or anything else. i just did a reformat , and then loaded norton. everything ok now ,just thought i'd pop in and update.

bottom line is ,don't let your protection systems expire.... duh
