1. Do any of the games in the following series use a copy protection like StarForce, SecuROM, etc.? If so, which one does it use?
- Atlantis
- Carol Reed
- Delaware St. John
- Last Half of Darkness
- Nancy Drew
The Atlantis games are the only ones that use a commercial copy "protection." The others use a disc check created by the developer, or possibly don't use copy "protection" (The newer Nancy Drew games don't require the disc in the drive to play). Atlantis 1, 2, and 3 use an early non-invasive form of copy "protection" that doesn't usually cause a problem. Atlantis Evolution (Atlantis 4) doesn't need a disc in the drive after installing. Atlantis 5 (Secrets of Atlantis: The Sacred Legacy) uses TAGESv5.
2. Are all adventure games published by City Interactive free of the above types of copy protection?
As far as I know, the Art of Murder and Chronicles of Mystery games all have a disc check. As far as I know, it's a check created by the developers. In any case, it isn't one of the major copy "protections."
3. Got Game - same question as 2.
It varies with the game. Their earlier games sometimes had no copy "protection" at all, but a few require the disc in the drive. I don't have any Got Game Games that use anything like modern SecuROM, StarForce, TAGES, or SafeDisc though.
By the way, modern versions of StarForce are nowhere near as invasive as StarForce 3, and are relatively benign compared to SecuROM. Even SecuROM wasn't bad before Sony (the rootkit company) bought the SecuROM company and turned it to evil. So if you have any older games from around year 2000 that have SecuROM, you don't need to worry about it.
