Wanted to post this follow-up, in case anyone else, like me, was wanting to play Eschalon 1 and/or 2 with any cheats that work (just for something different that's roughly in your genre), cuz I finally found something that works. First of all, the original demo of Book 1 is v1.0, but that trainer still didn't work, probably cuz it was just the demo. Then, I found a 13-option trainer for Book 2 v1.05 (the same version that Direct2Drive has), so I bought that download and tried it, but couldn't even activate the trainer without getting an error pop-up, possibly because the game was a download version and trainers are so picky. I thought my goose was cooked and was just gonna try a bit of a new game with a Magic User to see if that was better, but, before doing so, I did a half-hearted web-check for any kind of Book 2 savegame or character editor, and, surprisingly, I found one, and it actually works, which, of course, makes the game fun, by my definition of that word. Here's the link to it... Eschalon: Books 1 & 2 Savefile Editor For Windows users, just download and install the latest version (0.7.5) of this "exe" about halfway down the page. There will be separate shortcuts for opening its Book 1 or 2 Character Editors, and using them is pretty self-explanatory. The only curious thing that's cropped up so far is that, somehow, a couple of early quest items disappeared from my inventory, the "Strange Looking Glass" and the "Soulpiercer Arrow," I think they were called. I still have the quests in my journal, but I'm supposed to ask NPCs about them, which you can't do if you don't have 'em on you, so it remains to be seen if the main quest is progress-able or not, but it's still fun to play this with a beefed-up character.

Thanks Ana, Thanks Sig Be careful with the editor...we discovered the hard way that making too many changes within Baldur's Gatek using an editor eventually corrupted our saves. But it is fun to be able to customize. Enjoy!

I started over cuz of that (which is no biggie when you're not dying and re-dying every 10 feet of the way), and I'm glad I did--am enjoying it quite a bit. I think it's best to just beef up your character at the very beginning, then leave the editor alone if you can. About the game itself, there's part of a dungeon I can't access and it's buggin' me, and there doesn't seem to be any walkthrough for Book 2. For anyone who has played this, can you tell me what the deal is with that door you can't get past after exploring part of the "climb down the well" dungeon to look for that disciple of the priest in the first town--Eastwillow, I think it's called? There's a lever for this door on the inaccessible side of it, and the manual says you can actuate ones you can't reach with a bow or thrown weapon or a spellcast like Fireball, but it just keeps saying "Target is obscured," and I've tried other levers and blowing up the door with powder kegs, and nothing gets it open. The only guess I have left is that you access it from a sector further ahead in the game. Is that it? I've been all the way to that port city, but I read somewhere there's a Thieves' Guild beneath it, so maybe a tunnel of that leads to it? Anybody?

Sig, I bet that is it, but hopefully a member will remember so you don't have to wonder?

Finally found the trick to completing the "kill the wayward disciple for the priest in the first town" quest. Basically, that whole "accessed through a well" dungeon is do-able in a single, continuous exploration--the first 3rd of it is straightforward, the second 3rd is accessed with a little trick that you can figure out if you think about it and check the manual, but the last 3rd of it, with the quest kill, you're unlikely to access on your own, so check the forum on the Basilisk Games site for the trick to it. No one has written a full FAQ/Walkthrough for Book 2 yet, and virtually all the hints about it on the Web are only to be found in that forum. Good hunting!
