Due to persistant blue screens of death and nasty messages Bruin (e9290f) got everythig erased like a pre-frontal lobotomy. Now what should I download for virus protection and fire wall etcetc. I know malwarebytes is good and is filehippo a good site for these.
Also a new mobo.

Malwarebytes is not anti-virus. It is a great addition to your anti-virus though. Are you looking for free or paid anti-virus? Good free ones include Avast, AVG and Microsoft Security Essentials. My preference in those would be either Avast or MSE. I use Microsoft Security Essentials along with the free Malwarebytes. I picked up 2 copies of Malwarebytes Pro which runs in real time. I installed one of them on a computer I built last week along with MSE and it really seems to be a good combination.

Filehippo is a fine place to download from, although I always prefer to download from the original site, if possible. Some of the mirrors like Filehoppo sometimes try to put a huge download button in front of you to fool you into downloading something else. Just make sure you get what you want.

Good suggestions, I will use them. Avast and MSE.
Concerning paid anti-v, how are they better than the free kind?
I've seen those big download buttons and never gave them a thought - will be more careful now.
How about a firewall?
P.S. Will malwarebytes conflict with MSE or Avast

You can't use Avast and MSE at the same time. Anti-virus programs do not play well together. Just pick one and see if you like it. Not sure what your operating system is, but Windows XP, Vista and Windows 7 have a firewall. XP is just outgoing, but it's not bad. For Windows 7 I just use the built-in firewall, but then I also have a firewall in my router.

Malwarebytes plays very nicely with Anti-virus programs. The free one doesn't do anything until you tell it to run a scan. You can read more here... Malwarebytes

I'd wait until some of the others weigh in. You may get more good suggestions. I just mentioned some of the free ones. You may be looking for a paid anti-virus program.

I use Vipre, a paid antivirus and I like it a lot. It comes with a firewall. I also have Malwarebytes Pro so I feel fairly well protected.

No, you would choose either the Win 7 firewall or the third party firewall. I find the Win 7 firewall to be very, very good. I'm not constantly annoyed by popups about it blocking something and it does a very good job.

What you might think about doing is picking something and giving it a try and seeing how you like it. If you use one of the free ones, you can always uninstall and try something else. I'd pick either Avast or Microsoft Security Essentials and add Malwarebytes Pro. That's only $25... period. Then you can change anti-virus application to find the one that suits you best. Or you could go to one of the paid ones such as Norton, or Vipre or any one of a bunch of others.
