Arenanet started writing the original Guild Wars with 5 people, out of one of their founder's apartment. Today 270 Arenanet employees plus 100's of NC Soft (the publisher) employees in Europe and Korea are working on Guild Wars 2. (The original once again has a small group, 6 people, keeping it updated.)

Arenanet announced Guild Wars 2 in early 2007, as an explanation for why Guild Wars: Utopia a planned 4th campaign, had been canceled. They did not seriously start working on Guild Wars 2 until late 2007 however as they were still working on the Guild Wars expansion Eye of the North, which is a link to Guild Wars 2.

It's a good thing that they are still supporting the original wave

Some people wondered if future expansion packs for Guild Wars 2 would raise the character level cap, which starts at 80. According to one interview the answer is yes. Which surprises me. They did not do that with Guild Wars 1.

Only comment I've seen about the final profession is that it still needs work.

Ranger pets have received some criticism after the demos. Although I think the problem with pets is really a problem of people who haven't played the game from the start getting to jump into midlevel content so that they have no experience in properly using the pets. Never the less, Arenanet says they are working on improving the pets.

Guybrush, what has the general criticism of pets been?

In the demos they get defeated (die) a lot. They've already made some changes. Now ranger skills have some positive effect on pets as well as negative effect on foes.

No news about the game but guildwars2guru has user names in their forum showing up in pink and has the pink breast cancer ribbon on their logo. In Guild Wars 1 October 15th is Pink Day in LA (Lion's Arch).

Guild Wars 2 Races of Tyria (Spanish Fandub) - a group of Spanish Guild Wars 2 fans made this. The only official Arenanet ones are in English, German and French.

Guybrush, How many hours do you think you have in the first game {roughly of course}?

Have you played all of the added games ?

Guild 2 looks pretty good.

I am playing the trial version of 1 right now.

Do you think I should play 1, or wait & dive into, 2 when it comes out?

Thanks Dunn wave

6,399 hours and 55 minutes over 37 months.
The game tells you when you type /age. That covers everything and all characters. I haven't beaten the Domain of Anguish (a series of hard quests leading up to supposed to be hardest boss in the game) which became available after finishing Nightfall, otherwise I've done all the missions, quests, dungeons and end game elite missions, several times.

If you play the three campaigns and the 1 expansion pack that make up Guild Wars 1 you can unlock rewards for Guild Wars 2. Nothing that gives an advantage over people who haven't played Guild Wars 1. just cosmetic stuff.

Playing Guild Wars: Prophecies will give you a better understanding of some of the lore in Guild Wars 2, particularly why humans and charr have been at war for centuries.

Eye of the North introduces the Asura and the Norn, as non-player characters.

The game mechanics will be very different in Guild Wars 2. Most of Guild Wars 1 for example is instanced, just you and your team are there no other players. You meet other players in towns and outposts and guild halls. Guild Wars 2 most of it will be open to multiple players with very few instances.

Guybrush, those screenshots are awesome! I'm very impressed by the art work we've seen so far.

I'm going to lock this thread as it has gotten pretty long and start a new Guild Wars 2 thread.
