Hello, Gameboomers! I am wondering if I can run my first PC Game - Doom 1 and Doom 2 on my PC? I have not been able to make it work. I run Vista with 3 GB RAM and 32 bit system. I have enough juice to play Oblivion, but something is missing for this oldie. The error screen that comes up says the system does not support a full window.

Don't ask me why I want to play Doom! Maybe I'm homesick?

Thank you for your help

You could try playing it in DOSBox.
It's supported in DOSBox.

That might have to do with using a widescreen monitor -- or the resolution Doom needs being below what your monitor is set to render. I think Doom used something like 320x240. If you use DOSBox you shouldn't have this problem because it will be able to play windowed.
Or try the solution in the 3rd post on ***this webpage***.

Thank you for the speedy reply! I'll check out Dosbox first thing tomorrow.

Much appreciated!

I'd recommend ZDoom. It's a free source port of the Doom Engine which adds all sorts of nifty graphical/gameplay bells and whistles - including the ability to play at high resolutions and completely customize controls (I have mine set up like a modern FPS, WASD movement, mouselook, 'n' all). It works for all Doom Engine games, including Heretic and Hexen, and best of all, there's no messy configuration or even installation required; you simply download and extract the program, plop the games' .WAD files into the same folder, and run the ZDoom.exe.

So, yeah. ZDoom. grin
