Have downloaded "Dead Mountaineers Hotel" and installed the Steam application. I can't figure out what to do next. I know that I need to be able to access my Steam account in order to install the game. I set up a Steam account, but can't seem to get beyond the log-in. Tried to reset my password and keep going in circles with "Either password is unacceptable or answer to secret question is incorrect". Have sent in a request for tech support. In the meantime, anyone have any helpful suggestions?

Sparkle. After I installed Steam and d/loaded the game I clicked on the button "I have Steam" and best I recall it began to d/l the game. My memory is so bad but that sounds right.
I hope this is helpful.

Thank you Terri. As far as I recall, I clicked on "I have Steam" and then was asked to enter my username and password. My password was not accepted, so I tried to set a new password and ended up going in circles and not being able to move forward in the log-in process.

That sounds like the problem that I had the first time I installed steam. Did you get the email and activate the account?

This might help:

https://support.steampowered.com/kb_article.php?ref=4988-DHXV-7272

Otherwise I'd just wait for support to get back to you. When it comes to login issues and passwords there isn't much else you can do if the reset doesn't work.

Sparkle , Honey.
STEAM is really kind of the most annoying thing in a while. Still can't figure out what the point is.

I had the same problem. You have to look for ADD A GAME. Then you ADD the game. Very confusing.
I had to do that.
Good Luck. caz

Thanks all. Still waiting for response from Steam tech support. I'm pretty sure than I've already followed proper procedure as far as setting up an account. I just can't get Steam to accept my password. It's very possible I have it wrong since I went through numerous attempts to establish one before Steam would accept it. But I'm certain that I have the answer to my secret question correct. I'm reassured that once I get things going, all will be well. I have confidence in those who told me that Steam is a reliable site. But the next time I read a complaint about BFG, I'm afraid I'll go postal. crazy

ETA later: It's been just about 24 hours now since I sent a tech support ticket to Steam. Still no response. Is this to be expected?

It's just another digital distrubtion system for games. It has been around for many years now, it was one of the first. If you prefer to download your games as opposed to buying them in store, it's just another option. Some games like any made by Valve require Steam as well, so you have no choice.

You would only ever need to add a game manually if you didn't buy it through the Steam client itself.

I'd always recommend having an account first and buying through the Steam Client. So create your account, login and then using the Steam client make your purchases. That way your games are in your library the instant you complete the purchase.

You can buy some games from other places and register them on Steam and then you have to add the serial number, but that doesn't come up too often.

As for Steam support, 24 hours and no response is not out of the norm for their support. It can take a while because they receive a lot of requests. There are over 3.4 million people on Steam right now as I look.

Thank you, Templeton. Finally got response from Steam and will try again later this p.m. They assigned a new password, so I don't have to go through the process of figuring out an acceptable password. Hope it works.

ETA later: Password reset. Logged in to account. Game installing. Problem solved. happydance

Sparkle...One thing to keep in mind is your Steam account and Steam support account are two different logins. I had to put in seperate passwords. I ran into the same problem and had to reset my password. Glad you have the game installing okay now. thumbsup
