The Adventure Gamers website is posting the top 100 best all-time adventures; it's a very interesting read. I'm calling attention to it here because many of our members might find some games on the list that they would very much like to play; it may also bring back some great memories (it certainly does for me). You can read about it here. I wonder what will be in the top 10?

I know what should be right at the tippy-top but I know it won't be. Never is. Still, it should be close and I'm enjoying reading their list of the 100 best. It's not so much memories for me as giving me a peek at games I've never played (and probably never will unless they end up on GOG). Gil.

Is their list in order of player "preference" ?? Because some of my favourites are way, way down towards the bottom

Of course no one is going to agree on the order of the top 100. I suspect the list was based on decisions of the staff reviewers - and I'm sure there was plenty of argument about it. I'd have a hard time ranking 100 favorites myself.

I've never heard of some of those games. So I don't think they belong in top 100.

I was shocked to see Dark Fall so far down in the list. Don't feel bad, maybe one of Boakes' other games will be much closer to the top. There will be no comforting me if my game falls out of the top ten. I'll be hours cuddling it and telling it what boobs they are. So they'd better watch out or they may find out too late their tickets on the Number 9 have been cancelled just before somebody shoves the lot of them into a dark closet with a grue. (A borrowed grue, you understand.) Ha! Gil.

So far, looking over the top 51-100 games listed, it seems to me that what I considered the definition of adventure games has been considerabley broadened (and not for the better IMO). Fr'instance, I never thought of Silent Hill and Samorost 2 as fitting in the adventure game category, not to mention in a Top 100 list. Then there's Drawn, the Painted Tower. I wonder how much discussion there was over the inclusion of that one, especially considering it beat out games like Black Mirror and SH: The Awakened. I'm really curious, too, about the inclusion of games that have action sequences. Was that standard once? (I really don't know.) Or are they just acquiescing in what seems to be a trend? Gil.

No it means some of them are console games. I only play PC games. Well I did beat Ocarina of Time, but it took a long time as I only played it when visiting my nephew, who had it.

Hm, interesting. I already think Syberia 2 and Dreamfall are way too low on the list, but that's just me. I know none of my absolute favorites are going to top the list because I generally end up disagreeing with these things. One may not make it at all. But I'm hoping at least some of them are near the top.

The inclusion of Gemini Rue really made me grit my teeth and I'm sure it made sarahandus a little crazy, too, since it's way above Dark Fall at #79. I suspect it's a nod to Indies but it really doesn't deserve being on this list of the top 100 adventure games, IMO.

At a guess, even if they considered one of the Valhalla Classics, they wouldn't include it because it's impossible to get hold of the key codes. You can download the games but you can't play them. It's a real pity. The ones I do have unlocked (because I got them years ago when the makers still cared about these games) are fun to play and they aren't all that easy. For me, anyway. Gil.

sarahandus, we have the WTs for Episodes 1 to 12 here at GB in the WT section. MaG wrote those WTs. At Free Games Galore, we have a link to the Game. Chief

sarahandus, no one is responding and I've emailed several times. I think the makers have all gone their separate ways and lost interest in Valhalla Classics. The first game is free and you don't need a keycode for that one but the rest...good luck.

Is their list in order of player "preference" ?? Because some of my favourites are way, way down towards the bottom They were voted on by the AG staff, and a lot of discussion went into it (this feature has been in the works for the better part of a year!) And of course, debating whether the games belong on the list or not (and *where* on the list they belong) is all part of the fun of a project like this.
