Has anyone downloaded this game from GOG? They have it on sale for $23.99. I download casual games all the time, but I've never downloaded a full size game. Is there a down side to downloading a full size game? Thanks

I don't think there is a downside to downloading a full game, especially from GOG. I think you can download the game as many times as you like when you buy a game from GOG. It shouldn't affect people that'll buy the game before the sales ends. However, GOG has been involved in a law suit with Namco Bandai - Namco Bandai won. One of the outcomes of the legal battle is this: It has something to with regional pricing etc. However, as always GOG try to minimize the influence this court order has for their customers: GOG.com has stated for a long time now that we believe that the best security is asking only for the minimum of information that we need to successfully transact business with our customers. Our opinion is still that including things like determining your location via Geo-IP, because there are several possible flaws with that system. However, in order to keep selling The Witcher 2, we will need to implement a Geo-IP based system for determining your location, per the orders of the court.
We will be implementing this system immediately; you will see that your local currency’s price is now featured on the product page when you visit it, based on your IP address. Since we've already announced the price for this game would be the same flat price everywhere during the Holiday Sale (which ends on January 2nd, 2012, at 23:59 EST Time), we’re not going to change the pricing for the Witcher 2 until this sale ends. How can a French court order affect a Polish company?

Thanks Karsten, I think that I'm going to buy the game while it's on sale.

If you wind up not getting it from GOG, fildil, it's also on sale at Steam currently for $26.79. I just bought it and The Witcher for $29 and change the other day. They've been having big sales recently.

Wow, Karsten, I hadn't heard that. I agree. How can a French court order do this? I probably don't under stand how it all works, but this doesn't seem right.

It's not that hard to understand. It was easiest to find this in an internet service's TOS but something like it resides in the TOS of every piece of software you download, including games. "You and XXX each agree that the TOS and the relationship between the parties shall be governed by the laws of the State of XXX without regard to its conflict of law provisions and that any and all claims, causes of action or disputes (regardless of theory) arising out of or relating to the TOS, or the relationship between you and XXX, shall be brought exclusively in the courts located in the county of XXX, (State) or the U.S. District Court for the XXX District." You don't read that stuff before you check the little box, do you? Substitute France and there you go. It was in CDPR's contract with Namco Bandai somewhere, betcha. Now imagine you're Bulgarian and have a dispute with Sierra. (Fairly safe as a for instance since they're no longer with us.) US courts, here you come. Gil.

I know how to read , ok ? Yes , I do read the TOS . Like others who have commented on this thread , I find it somewhat puzzling that this decision has come to pass . I have read the postings in the GOG forums . From what I understand , this all revolves around pricing . After GOG's current sale (which expires January 2) , this new ruling will apply . Your IP address will determine your price for the game . For those that have already purchased , and those that do purchase before January 2 , this ruling means little if anything at all . One interesting side note , is those that purchase Witcher 2 that live in either New Zealand or Australia will receive a censored version of Witcher 2 . Everyone else will get the uncensored version .

Sorry you found that testy, Creeping Doom. Draclvr asked how a French court order could do this. Perhaps I should have quoted her. Gil.

As did Karsten ask the same question. And, yes, I also read the TOS, tedious though they may be.
But then I waited for the boxed version of the game and it appears it was a good decision.
